Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 28 11:20 am)
Poser 7 on the Mac is a LOT better than P6!!! both G5 and Intel. I gave up using P6 it was so not fun, but P7 has made the whole thing lots of fun again. Logic Express, is excellent. I have GB and all the loop additions, Logic lets you use all those AND adds the Logic extras. It's a learning curve but the sound modules and the effects are far more customizable. Having both, I couldn't just say get one or the other, I decided get both! Cheers
Let me second kaveman that Poser 7 on an Intel Mac is a religious experience compared to P6. Universal code, multi-processor support, lightening fast renders, layered animation, dubbing... Poser 7 has a lot of problems with PCs and Vista, but the Mac version has been comparatively clean. If you have an Intel Mac, you shouldn't even think twice about upgrading to P7 for Mac, just do it and revel in the improvement; Logic Express should be your distant second priority. If, on the other hand, you have a G4 or G5 Mac, then...well, I'd still move up to P7.
Well, I've got both. To be honest I haven't used P7 on my G5 dual 2GHz (other than big renders) much but it certainly seemed to be fine. I mostly use my poor old G4 iBook 1.2GHz with 768MB RAM (mainly because it's always with me wherever I go) and P7 seems to render better but the whole thing is certainly more sluggish than P6 was. I haven't had any problems with Logic so I'm not sure what the problem is there... If you're a musician you should just have it ;) In a nutshell: P7 on G5 = Good (especially with dual processors and plenty of RAM) P7 on G4 = Slooooow P7 on Intel = Probably better than G5, but I don't know as I can't afford to buy one to find out :( Just send me a MacBook Pro and I'll be glad to do the testing for you :D
Thanks all for the input. So i'm struggling alot with deciding now between Final Cut Express or Logic express 7( not pro) Here's the deal: I do animations or stories using Poser and vue. I like working with sound. and i like sound effects at times. I like making music... but i have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome or ulnarve nerve syndrome... and haven't made songs in a while.. i don't even want to get back into it.. But if i suddenly have an idea...then maybe i would like to make a song. At first i was thining Logic express.. But then i saw Final cut express which is same price 299. Final cut, does essentially what i want which is sound effects and adding sound tracks to movies. But then the Soundtrack program included in final cut express doesn't have as many effects. doesn't even have Voice Transformer( Soundtrack pro which comes with final cut Pro.... does have pitch changer and voice transformer). And final cut express can add titles and effects to video. Not that i'm really interested in that much Cause i'm making movies using IPhoto slideshows and it already has simple transition effects. That's all i would need. So in essence, i think Logic express would be better for me than Final cut express... but final cut looks tempting because of movie effects and all that. Anyways, so what wul be better for a Poser and Vue user, creating simple animations or slideshows.. who is an amateur musician at heart( but can't d much cause hand problems)(though still have lots of ideas for composing) and who likes sound effects and plug ins such as voice changer but the main thing is he already has Poser and Vue just need a program to create and compose a finished product as best as possible?? by the way my mac is Tower single processor.. G5 1.8GZH
I've never used Final Cut so I can't really make a proper judgment on that. But for me, unless you're making fully fledged anims I wouldn't think it'd be worth it (again, that's just my pretty uninformed opinion). Your G5 will run Logic no problem. With mine (dual 2GHz with 1.5GB RAM) I don't run into problems until I get about 8 audio tracks all using different effects (and I think that's mostly that the hard disk can't keep up). If you're mostly using MIDI you really shouldn't have any problems. The effects and instruments are definitely better in Logic (well, they'd wanna be huh ;) ) than in Garage Band, but personally, if I'm just mucking about I'd rather use GB. Just a quick question... is Garage Band really not cutting it for you? Not trying to put you off, but I also don't really want to suggest you spend money if you don't have to either. Have you got some examples of your work so we can see what you're doing and try to understand better where you're trying to go with it? Anyway, I really can't help you with Final Cut, but hopefully someone here knows something about it.

My poser projects are in need of good sound. so i was pondering buying logic expres. i work with midi and at times do my own music. But i read the apple discussion boards and some people complain about the program.. i don't reaaally need it. i have garageband but logic express instruments sound more realistic. Ok so then i was pondering, that or upgrade to Poser 7? I hear from alot of you guys that poser 7 has a lot of problems... Then i'm left thinking that both programs have flaws. then whtat? should i just wait for poser 8 and keep using p6 for now?
