installing XP? ;)

Just get rid of all the fancy visual stuff because when you get down to it, it's just that... fancy. No idea where to find the options because i dont have it but i would imagine under the vista "control panel" and "display options" or whatever they call it.

Viper - vista has a very Microsoft set base, it's possible to change some settings but is no where never as friendly as XP. Microsoft have taken the user out of this version and put what they want in, if you don't like what you get you've got lots of time to change most features,

I agree with Rich - install XP, it uses less mem and your graphic programs with be using the graphic card not Vista sucking all the graphics RAM in their background processes.

This is all I know from reviews and other ppl's experiences...

Thanks guys I have thought about installing xp, but dont want to shell out the money for it as the legal copy I have is part of the dell package and I'm not sure I can install it from the dell discs.

That's one thing I don't like about prebuilt PCs and laptops is you've gotta deal with the software that they give you...

yep right there with you, maybe with vista out now I can find me a discounted copy of xp seeing as how it is now "obsolete". Vista is pretty though.

Vista is not only pretty it is also better in many ways.

The initial question is back to front IMHO
It is not a case of how to maximise Vista, but how Vista is going to maximise the performance of your pc.

And every one said, 'If we only live,
We too will go to sea in a Sieve,---
To the hills of the Chankly Bore!'
Far and few, far and few, Are the lands where the Jumblies live;
Their heads are green, and their hands are blue, And they went to sea in a Sieve.
