Subject: making BVH files

Hello again ^_^

I am not a big fan when it comes to animate in Poser, however the fact that you can have pre-rigged humans, animals, creatures and such makes it very valuable (not to mention the cloth and hair modules). I was wondering of any animation tool you may know that will let me export BVH files to be used in Poser. I am using Maya but I haven't found any BVH exporter so far, so I was wondering if there was any little app that would let me animate the skeletons, at least, and then use those in Poser.
I also want to use those in iClone, so it's very important to have the final motion data in BVH format.

Thanks :)

I'm not sure whether it works, but this at least looks promising.

A .bvh exporter for Blender is in the works, but they seem to keep having trouble dealing with gimbal lock and rotation order....

Cage had some freebies, compatible with Poser 11 and below.  His Python scripts were saved at archive.org, along with the rest of the Morphography site, where they were hosted.

Interesting. It looks promising. What's the difference between the free and the paid version?

As far as I know, the free version has a time limit, but no other restrictions.  I tried the program about a year ago, but didn't really have a chance to figure it out before the time ran out on me....

Edit and exports to a wide variety of motion, including bvh. You can save poser rigs in bvh also so that joint alignment doesn't have to be set up over and over again.

Neato.  Life Forms 4.0 looks like the better package, but at $495.00, it's significantly pricier.

Ah, Cage wishes he had money to spend....  :-P

Hai Nemirc,
You can use the 'ultimate' animation tool, Motion Builder; as far as I know it also exports .bvh.

On the other hand, Poser7-animation is not as bad as many people make you think:
You can do non-linear animation, the cahracter can be limited to natural movements, you can use the walkdesigner and the talkdesigner.
You can select whatever bodyparts/objects are under cursor with the rightmousebutton.
You can tweak the animation with curves.
Materials, transparencies, and many, many other features can be animated also.

The IK-feature however is limited, because you must choose before the take of a shot between using IK of FK. But with the transpose-tool you can simply drag for instance the hand to its new place and the rest of the bodyparts do follow correctly, quite like in IK; that is, if the distance dragged is not too far or the trajectory dragged is not too weard.
Poser7 animation has some reported bugs, that surely will disappear after some updates.

Motion Builder has a good developed 'pinning system', with which you can pin a part to its position in space and/or to its rotation. Could be handy.
Also MB ensures that you do not move throuw the floor with your feet and hands.

So try the MB Learning Edition for size? Or really invest some more learning time in animating in Poser?
