THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Generic Forum type question

What is the process to get a new bit of software up with it's own forum?

Let's say someone wants to get the Ivy Generator with it's own forum.. how would one go about doing it? What about the role of coordinator? And does a forum need a moderator? Some I've noticed do not have a moderator.. so what's the process to get a moderator? Vote someone for the role? How many members in the forum would it take to warrent voting for a moderator?

hrm....?

pakled ( ) posted Mon, 28 May 2007 at 10:32 PM

start with Agent Smith? or Zhann? I dunno..I don't see them get added very often. Some dissapear after awhile. Last one I really remember being added was Wings...

How was Wings added? Ppl did an email campaign? I am quite curious about this.

AgentSmith ( ) posted Tue, 29 May 2007 at 12:31 AM

A member will request a forum, and we'll look around to see how many people would actually be interested in it, and decide from there.

Renderosity really does want to have a Moderator/Coordinator in every forum, they are just not all covered at the moment. (slower forums, with no Mods will have various Mods will check in there from time to time)

Staff members that are made Mods or Coords are normally recommended by other staffers, but not always, some are volunteers. Anyone made into a Mod/Coord are, in the end, approved into the job by the current staff.

Silo is a deserving app, and it has a dedicated following, but Nevercenter has their own Silo forum and most of its' adherents seem to hang out there. Get rid of Wings Forum? Never! :mad:Not when people realise what they can do with a free app with a little practice. You can make props and objects that would be very difficult to model in Bryce6, even with its new boolean-mesh export capabilities. This '47 Chev-ish car is only 3500 polys, and it renders very well in Bryce using slightly tweaked preset mats. I'm making a bunch of '40s and '50s cars for a drive-in scene.        I keep tellin' ya that Wings makes a great accesory to Bryce, almost like a modeling plug-in. I was beginning to feel sorry for you due to your recent auto smash-up, ( I will say a prayer for your son), but when you say such mean and nasty things about Wings, I can only hope that you have to long endure the torture of one of your "comfy chairs" while you recuparate. :tongue2:

Danamo: You got your wish. My personal 'comfy-chair' is not so comfy atm. And I was only kidding anyway! Honest!

Silo would be a good choice for a new forum. Hear about it in the modeling and the Hexagon and even the wings forum. You may knock wings but it has a very active forum and a big following. Danamo nice car. Like it better than my low poly 50's cars.

Looks like an invatation to post some Wings models (in defense of the app, of course).

Wow! That's a very nice kitchen design Dvlink6!  You're right! I see an invitation here as well. We should bury Bryster with Wings/Bryce renders until he capitulates!

I had a render for the kitchen. Guess it deleted at some point. Haven't used that one for a long time, surprised I still have the .wings file. - - - - - Here is a AD&D Wings model, rendered way back with Bryce 5. I keep all the AD&D renders on a seperate disk drive. I had to shrink the image down from 3200x2400, so it doesn't look so good anymore.

That AD&D looks nice though. I'm wondering how it would look with all the new apps and Br6 features now available.. like.... oh... ivy along the walls, an outdoor scene, primal fire mat, etc. You can tell I really like something when I start wondering how it'll look with this or that.  I really like it.

@Death_at_Midnight
I don't know about Ivy on inside walls.
I don't know what 'primal fire' is either.
I was going to put spider webs around the scene. Never got around to it.
I still have the transmaps I made up in Photoshop and have used them in other renders.

O.k., the forum wouldn't let me attach this to the last post. Sorry. I found the Bryce render of the kitchen model. It was saved with the .br file.

Yah, that's why I was wondering about an outdoor scene with the ivy. I really like it... perfect for a ruin scene with broken walls and such.. like one of those old ruin castles scenes... Excellent work. Lots of possibilities.

That's also a very nice kitchen work.

Thank you Dann-O. I want your Hudson auto for that drive-in scene. You've given me some good ideas about modeling old cars. I'll re-send my email addy. Excellent renders dvlenk6! Way to carry the Wings banner aloft. 👍 Here's another semi-abandoned loco on the sidetracks of my harddrive. A NYC JP3 Hudson. I plan to finish both this loco and "The Flying Scott" and bring them both into Carrara5 to animate with both particle smoke and steam, and motion blur.

Thanks, Danamo. That train model looks cool. I use other modellers also. Fortunately that doesn't exile me to the Leper Colony of the Wings user forum, since the is no such thing. - - - - - I've made loads of furniture for Bryce with Wings also. Here's some of them.

pakled ( ) posted Fri, 01 June 2007 at 6:38 AM

for those of us who don't have the $109 to buy SILO, Wings will do fine. It's got all sort of ancilliary tools, like Blender, Topmod, CB Modeler pro (juries' still out on the last) that can do minor things that Wings can't. Hey, however you make your models, as long as they're rendered in Bryce..;)

We were hoping you'd change your screen name from TheBryster to TheWingster...
Or at least to not be labelled 'damned heretics' anymore.

I guess if it really bothers you, I won't post any more Bryce renders of Wings models. :crying:

I never was able to become comfortable w/ Blender's interface. I use it regularily, but only for certain things. I've never rendered with it.

danamo ( ) posted Fri, 01 June 2007 at 12:56 PM

The interface for the upcoming Blender 2.5 is supposed to be a lot more "user friendly". I may just have to D/L it then and give it another try.
