Something you should be aware of is that, even without paying the fee to "officially" copyright your work, the work is automatically copyrighted to you as soon as you write it. While it's nice to do it officially so if anything happens, it's easier to prove that you had the original version of the work, you do own it regardless.

I recently looked into one of the workshops identified in this forum which led to a business called Book Surge, an Amazon.com company. Below is the link:

This business requests for authors to submit electronic copies of their stories in formats such as .pdf or .doc. Is this a good idea or safe? I'm a little uneasy because once the soft copy of the story is released others can do so much with it. I was never concerned with printed copies because I knew that it would be a chore to try and get paper converted into an electronic copy.
