Subject: Vue6Pro or Esprit owner, could you do some tests?

vincebagna ( ) posted Thu, 14 June 2007 at 3:03 AM · edited Wed, 20 November 2024 at 8:18 AM

Hi!

Could you test Poser6 import for the following objects, cause i just can't load them for my part:

  • Hiro hair
  • Annika hair
  • Kurt hair
  • Madelyne hair
  • Mitsu hair
  • WILD hair
  • Flexy hair
  • Mil cat
  • Mil horse

I don't know if it's just me so...

I have been trying to get WildHair into Vue 6 Esprit and Vue 6 PLE, with no luck. I've tried resetting the materials inside Vue to fix the transparencies, but it still renders like poo. :P Any solutions? I've seen Vue renders where the hair looks nice, but I haven't figured it out. :( bB

Since my post, i succeded to import Hiro hair and Mil Cat, but not the other stuff. The only way i managed to import Wild Hair and Flexy, is by exporting in obj from Poser, importin back, then import the scene into Vue. :(
Not really handy (you loose all the morphs...)

I've some tickets running with Eon at this time, but they can't figure it out neither...

Hello,  I did some experimenting with Vue6 Esprite for importing some of the Poser files on your list that I have. They imported fine on my system. Now, I'm running Vue6e with 3 plugins - Botanica, EcoSystem, and DeepAccess. Don't know if that makes a difference or not.

No good deed goes unpunished ...

Attached Link: Wildcat hair

I have pro studio lurking around somewhere so I'll give it a go when I get home (if I get a minute) I can confirm the wildcat hair loads fine into Vue 6 infinite though - there's an image in my gallery using it

So the problem is not texture maps being imported wrong, but Vue is unable to find the obj?

How are you opening your scene?
I am doing pz3 import, disabling posing inside Vue, and including Poser shader trees.

I think editing your pz3 will work. I used to doing that because many things like MAT Poses are in the wrong format for the Mac. I use BBedit Lite's "find and replace" for quickly editing.

When i import, all in scene come in well, except the hair. I tried editing the pz3, but no change.

Did you check the materials?

vincebagna ( ) posted Tue, 14 August 2007 at 4:48 PM

I can't check them because there is no object. I mean, when i import a character with one of the hair above, the character comes bald. If i click on the "+" near the character name, there is no hair, so no materials.
And if i save only the hair in Poser, then import the pz3 in Vue, there is nothing at all. Really weird.

Strange. Are your hair files compressed (obz), or do you have multiple runtimes?

vincebagna ( ) posted Tue, 14 August 2007 at 6:05 PM

Not compressed and only one runtime :)

Are the objs in a place other than the geometries folder? I had something not import for that reason. I moved the obj to the geometries and edited the cr2 to point to the new location, that fixed the import error.

Here is the problem I am having... the hair textures imported wrong. I hand edited the materials, everything looks right in the materials, but when I render, it's like there are no transparencies at all! And some of the textures are missing on the hair too! I wish there were a way to get realistic skin and hair in Vue. :( Poser smokes Vue when it comes to rendering people, imho. I wish there were a way a match a vue scene to a poser scene, render in each app, then composite in photoshop. When i use Vue materials, like on the camera, that looks cool. It just seems like texture maps look bad. p.s. Some of my material edits didn't take. I tried to give all skin textures a 9% highlight, but when I reopen those materials, my highlight setting is gone, it's back to zero.

for realistic skin, head over to Cornucopia and get hold of SkinVue - it's amazing.

hair is awkward at the best of times.

Alternatively (if you have the RAM) when you import the scene, check the "Render with Poser shader tree" option - it needs a lot more memory than a normal scene though

BTW, for the obj, all is in their proper place in the geometries folder. Could it be because i have a too weak computer?

Photo is the same character and pose but rendered in Poser 6 (not firefly). The background is the scene I set up in Vue that I want to put the character into. (It's a simple idea, guy takes photo of pretty Vue sunset.)

SkinVue only works with Vue Infinite. I have Vue 4 Esprit, Vue 5 Easel, Vue 6 Esprit for the Mac.
I tried downloading Infinite PLE, but it doesn't look like you can get Skin Vue for PLE either because you must register a copy of Vue Infinite before you can buy SkinVue. Since PLE is a learning edition, it doesn't allow you to register it.

I have tried importing objs, importing PZ3 without Poser Shaders, and PZ3 with Poser Shaders. In all cases, I had the same problem with texture maps.

I will try importing without Poser's Shader Tree, and try to edit materials by hand again. Maybe the Poser Shader Tree was overridding my hand material edits in Vue?

If Transmapped hair doesn't render that well in Vue, how does Dynamic Hair render in Vue? Maybe I should switch to Dynamic?

A weak computer?  That can't be the case.

Is your version of Vue the most current? Did you install the final version of Vue 6 (not teh beta), then apply the upgrade?

Speaking of... is Vue 6.5 Esprit released?

vincebagna ( ) posted Wed, 15 August 2007 at 1:55 PM

I have Vue6 ProStudio (i upgraded since my first post). I run the final release, but not the last version because it didn't answer to my problem, and doesn't permit me to use Infinite vue materials as the version before does.

The current version of Esprit is 6.10 Build 291200.

You can run SkinVue is VuePro?

Maybe it's a bug in VuePro 6. You reported it?

That sucks about the materials! I just bought some scenes that were supposed to work in Vue6e, but gues what? Nope. Don't work. They do work in Vue PLE though. Ack. So confusing to have so many versions of the same app.  :P

Online Now!

I think this is related to a problem I had with a scene where only parts of the scene were missing. The geometries were spelled  correctly and had the right paths, but vue only found a few.

What I discovered was that my pz3 file had some objects referenced with "/" instead of ":". Check yours and make sure all file references use the colon. Once you have fixed them all, try reimporting it.

I think you will find it works for you then (let us know if it doesn't. you might have to restart vue in case they use some sort of caching and try to be smart and reuse previously loaded geometries (not sure if that is true, but it seems like one time things worked better when I restarted vue).
