I am pretty happy with http://www.thefreedictionary.com/. As far as vocabulary building, there are several free lists for that too, including Merriam Webster's Word of the Day: http://www.m-w.com/ (actually opening up a decent print dicitionay accomplihes the same thing).

I was thinking of subscribing to www.dictionary.com but am not sure if it is worth it. I am able to do a lot of lookups now for words. What I am not sure is if you get more words or something like that if you subscribe. They do mention you get some word games but I am not interested in that. However, I would be interested if they offered some kind of vocabulary building software.
Has anyone here subscribed to this site and if you did was it worth it?
