Subject: Probably asked a million and one times

This has Probably been asked a million and one times, but I can't locate it.
I'm using Poser 6 and haven't upgraded to 7 yet.
I don't see a what's new at efrontier, so can someone say what has been added in Poser 7 that would make the jump from 6 worthwhile?

thanks

I cannot answer you question because I also am still using Version 6, but it is nice to see you around.

It's kind of a tradeoff.  The big things that you may value are:

  • Multi-threaded rendering; if you have a multi-core processor, your renders can run much faster, as the renderer can make use of up to 4 processor cores... possibly 4 times faster with the same options, but realistically not that much faster because the way Poser 7's multiprocessing is done is a bit stupid.
  • Memory management is significantly better; scenes that would regularly run out of memory while rendering in P6 have behaved MUCH better under P7.

On the downside, new in P7:

pjz99 hit two of the items that were high on my list ... the 3rd is the multiple undo capability which, when I'm working in Poser, is a definite MUST!!!

Better multiple runtime handling
Better Setup room camera behavior
Morph brush tool (quite different from and far more useful than the Morph Putty tool)
HDRI support for IBL
Texture filtering is set per image map, it's no longer a global setting.
Python scripts in menu, in addition to the Python script window
Advanced shading in OpenGL preview
New Python functions.

Can use up to 3 GB of address space under WIndows XP Pro 32 bit (with the /3G startup switch in boot.ini) or 4 GB of address space under Windows XP 64 bit.

Renders high poly scenes that would inevitably crash Poser 6

Hey, I thank you for that! I was just about to miss the deadline for the upgrade discount.

Good reasons for the upgrade... thanks for the link and info!
