I'm finally done!  Conforming, about 7-8 different apollo character fitting morphs, and a number of movement morphs!

I think Apollo likes it... he's been getting awfully cocky while I was rendering the samples. I think I detected a smidgeon of attitude!

It's looking great too! Love the attitude on Apollo in that first shot :).

Very nice! I'd offer to help but, I'm in the middle of restructuring my runtimes as the current harddrive that I'm using is becoming unstable:P Thanks again for the Victorian shoes! V3 loves 'em! I just got around to downloading Apollo and plan to add him to my freebie project list. (sigh) Never enough time!

Oooh cool. Let me have it - it's begging for a better leather shader. It needs a more natural tone and has to have some stains, scratches, and burn marks.

Oh, absolutely, it needs a MUCH better shader :)
I did a quick slap in of a mildly modified something i found in my runtime... LOL.
My silly brain was exhausted trying to figure out morphs and injections etc...
PM-ing you a download link for beta :)

I'm yet to make couple of classic texture maps for it, but a "Baggins and co." procedural for it would be... oh my... the tops!!!!!

I haven't put a serious effort into this yet - just tinkering while eating my lunch.

There's a crease in the chest you should get rid of.

Here's the first one as a material file. I have to add ".doc" to the end to upload it to Renderosity. Change it back to BS1.mt5 when you save it.

Go into the shader and adjust the Diffuse_Color to get different versions. In the second render, I changed it to RGB 91, 80, 66.

Feel free to include that shader or variations in your freebie. I may or may not have time to work on a better on. I have to do some work for my real job. :bored:

Awesome start :)

Yes, I agree with you on that crease. It's giving me a bit of grief at the moment figuring out why poser does it, and hex doesn't. maybe it has to do with rigging. I'll get to the bottom of it.
(I'm open to help/ideas on that)
Also, I want to add some tie-morphs or props to the back of the belt (where you see just overlap now.)
If you get any other ideas on morph details as you go along, please do tell :)

I was thinking (lol as I was falling asleep last night) about mimicking stitching with procedural textures. Just at the level of conceptual math...
Dashed line is not too hard to define, I think... One would have to figure out where polygon normals encounter a sudden 90° or a near 90° turn, then back off a certain distance (to get a seam edge), then make the line (with a little bit of width, dash and offset) follow the polygon edges where this angular difference between normals was encountered. Same thing along open edges.

That's about as far as I've gotten, just a vague hypothesis that maybe it can be described mathematically. I'm not sure if it's doable. Seeng your handywork on rounding corners of wood paneling and moulding, I'm seeing some hints it's possible.

Anyway, that's how far my daydreaming has gotten on that one.....

Second thought, it's gotta be possible, at least math wise, much like automatic edge looping is possible. Doesn't always give you the exactly desired result, but it's good in most cases.
...okay, I'm really rambling now... back to work for me ;)

oh, this reminds me that I meant to create a fit over the jeans morph, and forgot all about it :(

Just for my own summary here, things that I need to tweak:

-Chest crease
-Neck strap fitting/rigging
-Arms up fitting morph
-Add back strap knot (morph or a part)
-Add Jeans fitting morph
-Add pockets (turn on and off)
-Add Tool/Towel ring strap
-Add Material Zones

Wonderful feedback guys :)  keep it coming!

This Arm folding pose... it needs some wrinkles or folds to go with the pose, no?

something I just remembered, in my images, the first one, I applied the lean-wrinkle morph, I think somewhere between 0.7 and 1. It's for pretty subtle body movements. I'm envisioning heavy leather (rawhide kind) apron. If that makes any sense... [scratching head, wondering]

I suppose with pockets and accessories, I can make separate meshes and attach them to the apron as a smart prop?
I'm dreading including them into original mesh and having to re-work all the morphs.

My honey says I'm his pickaderm!  I guess it sounds better then a nitpicker?

Okay, I'm leaving the top pocket close to the way it is... bottom, I may add it, but turn it off as default, to be turned on when it's supposed to be bottom only apron.
Now I need to make a neat looking braid... cause I decided that the ring HAS to hang on a braid. No simple leather strap, I HAVE to have a braid. I think that's a little masochistic streak in me!

Sorry, I haven't been getting bots for this thread.

BB, those leather textures are great.

I love that top pocket Connie, but I'm not sold on the larger bottom one. Being able to toggle it on or off would be purrfect (I couldn't resist).

If we can hit that bullseye, the rest of the dominos will fall like a house of cards...checkmate!

Conniekat8 ( ) posted Tue, 03 July 2007 at 7:34 PM

LOL :) I likey purrrrfect :)
I'll hide the bottom pocket as default... or maybe not include it at all, now that it has two strikes against it ;)  I wasn't in love with it myself either.
No worries about getting to this, I'm behind on implementing suggestions, you have plenty of time ti pick it apart... since we're being picky, picky, picky...
I'll have to make sure I note somwehere in the product it's a major collaboration. You guys are doing a lot of work!

Yea, I'm doing most of the modelling in Hex lately. Hex and Max are my main tools. At the beginning of this year I fell in love with subdivision modelling and UV Mapping in hex, and dropped doing it in Max. But often I export to max for other things, like additional effects, baking textures, various tweaks, cloth simulations.

RAMWorks ( ) posted Thu, 05 July 2007 at 7:34 PM

Me too, this is quality stuff here!!  😄

I like that you are doing stuff that no one else has thought of.  Folks constantly complain that Apollo's waredrobe is sorely lacking and it is in some ways and I undestand that.

I think it's just so habitual that we see a new item for our favorite mesh and we all go "ooo, pretty, shiny, must buy" but then when the excitement dies down then it's on to the next thing.  Forward a few months or even a year later.  Some up and coming texture artist comes and offers up a pack of textures that totally gives the mesh a revised excitement and folks are just excited as they were initially.  More sales for the mesh and the texture packs sell like hot cakes too.  Everyone is happy.  So while the mesh should be of quality and morphs abound and all that in all honesty it's not just the mesh that makes the sales and brings the excitment it's the quality of the textures and the amount of imagination or realism that goes into the pack that really helps to sell it.

So there ya go.  Your skills are very good Connie.  Keep at it and as long as you are supporting Apollo I'll be buying!!  😄

I like making stuff... And the attention is nice when I make something half ways decent...
Selling, accounting, customer service... it just makes my head hurt. I already have a full time job in 3D, this is for a hobby.
But skill wise, I like to push it :)
