Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 03 12:46 am)
To tell the truth, the "correct" way to reduce object size to to carefully think out every part when you build the model. Once it is finished and grouped for Poser it is too late to do that much, even in Max. Stay away from NURBs, make high density mesh only where it is needed for detail, don't include any surfaces that are always hidden (many of the original Poser clothes have inside surfaces that are only seen before they are fitted, for example). I know this is not the answer you wanted to hear!
An OBJ file is a text file. You CAN do anything you wish with a text editor. What is practical and timely to do is a different matter. To cut a model in half, you could keep all the "v" lines with a positive "x" value plus those with an "X" of zero and delete the negative lines. Very likely this will give you half a model, provided to author was careful in how he did the original mesh. Doing stunts with a text editor is more likely to be profitable down in the "f" section in assigning materials and groups.

Well, editing may be a stronger word than I'm looking for, but... anywho. I am looking for a way on how to, say, crop an OBJ file... I dont exactly have access to any of the programs that could (as in 3dMAX etc). A friend has it, but to get him to do anything is a real feat. Can anyone give me instructions on how to do such a thing without their parent programs? I tried doing it with Photoshop, but that was just as much the catastrophe that I expected. If their isn't a way to do it unless you have the specified program, can someone give me specific directions on how to do it? Maybe I'll get lucky and if I spell it out for my friend, he'll actually help (or someone here would be willing to lend a hand wink wink :). Thanks ahead of time....
