Subject: New Look? Garbage!

Quote - I appreciate all the hard work and the new scheme, but the high contrast text on a dark background is less than kind on the eyes after a few minutes reading.
Feel free to disparage my opinion. After all, I actually thought the DAZ site redesign was beautiful.
Duh.

Oh they will disagree with you on the text color but what everyone doesn't seem to be think about is that what's good for one person isn't good for another. Very bad thing to consider every person is the same and has the same eyes.

I like the overall look and feel of the new site, but the tiny white font on dark background is hard to see.  Please consider having an option to let us see nice clean black text on white background, 12 point font, so it's readable.  This current font size etc is hard on the eyes, imho.

mylemonblue ( ) posted Mon, 16 July 2007 at 7:49 PM · edited Mon, 16 July 2007 at 7:50 PM

I don't know what the problem is. The text look just fine in my scanning electron microscope. LOL. Ack it shrunk even more!(kidding) Hehehehe....

Hmmmmm... Well if they insist on keeping Chuck Norris's Texas Ranger badge then the text might as well be yellow to.

All together...

In the eyes of a Ranger,
The unsuspected stranger
Had better know the truth of wrong from right,
'Cause the eyes of a Ranger are upon you,
Any wrong you do he's gonna see,
When you're in Texas look behind you,
'Cause that's where the Ranger's gonna be

“The text look just fine in my scanning electron microscope”
LOL! Love that!

This looks like the DAZ site, but with better colors…
(I did NOT mean that has a compliment)

SamTherapy ( ) posted Mon, 16 July 2007 at 8:35 PM

I have to agree with graphicsguy. The font is, what we in the trade call "gnat's cock" size and even on this bigass monitor is rather hard to distiguish.

We are going to tweak the font a bit probably tomorrow..

Also when the forum and gallery options open back up, anyone that wants can work on some new CSS codes and post in the CSS forum or ask for help there.

StaceyG ( ) posted Mon, 16 July 2007 at 8:53 PM

FYI, the forum and gallery options are open again so if anyone wants to do their own CSS code, you can go for it:)

Yeah. the text could be a little larger. Guess that don't take into consideration those that now meed a magnifyer to read what's here.

I will 2nd that.
I have my glasses on and I need a magnifying glass to read the text.

Hey Stacey

Thanks for the FYI
I edited the CSS code (A first for me) and I can now read the text without kissing my monitor.

I like the new look and it sure doesn't look like the crappy new DAZ. For me it's good to view, good to read, and pleasant on the eyes.

what is happening to Karen avatar this week? now it has gone all squishy! before her eyes had gone all evil types, i think the avatar monster has got her, and she needs our help!!

never fear Karen, there is a rescue party assembled and we are working on a cunning rescue plan right now!! we'll save you.

...........sorry, i just found out that Baldric is in charge of cunning plans this week, so we may be a while yet!

vince3 ( ) posted Tue, 17 July 2007 at 4:28 AM

i think the yellow stars are ok too!!

they look like we have done "good work" and have been given a star for behaving well and sitting still in assembly.

KarenJ ( ) posted Tue, 17 July 2007 at 4:49 AM

My avatar is somewhere screaming "Hay-ulp! Hay-ulp!" (If you're under 30 you probably won't remember the cartoon I'm referencing, but nevermind)

I am asking for the stars to be changed to a proper transparent background because I think they're harder on the eyes now, from the main forum page. Also the smilies need updating as some of them now have rather strange white "tabs" around them...
:sneaky:
etc...

Transparency isn't cut right, it doesn't matter against a white background but it shows now rather badly.  It actually looks okay now with a bigger font, although black background web pages are very passé.

I know the animation you're talking about :)

Hi Traligill, I believe the programmers will be making some adjustments to the text size today.

You can also check out the  CSS workroom (link attached) where people will be posting their custom css sheets that you can use to increase text size/colours/etc.

SamTherapy ( ) posted Tue, 17 July 2007 at 7:33 AM

Now the font size has been changed I have absolutely no problems with the way the site looks at all.  I'm assuming this is the default look, since I believe all the CSS styles were disabled for the changeover.  If that's the case, I'm leaving things as they are because I rather like it.

Is is bigger than last night, Paul? I'm not sure because I'm at work now so I'm on a smaller resolution than at home anyway... I know I was finding the fonts a little small on my 1280x1024 last night...

Karen,

At least the fonts are a little bigger. Next question, what can we do so the site isn't squashed in the middle of a wide screen monitor with alot of dead space on each side?

sorry if i went too far with my last comment Karen.

We'll let you get away with not having to stand in the corner but you have to tell us what character is in your avitar.  Your avitar is super awesome.

It's okay Vince. You know what my fellow mods call me in the staff room? Bo-  ...Um. Karen. Yeah, that's it, Karen. 😊

Cherokee, I'm thinking that some messing with the CSS may help those on widescreen. I don't have a widescreen, so it's kind of hard for me to experiment here. I see you've already got a thread in the CSS forum so hopefully one of the experts can help work something out. If I get time to experiment myself, I'll drop anything i come up with into that thread.

Karen,

I've looked at the CSS default setup but it looks  totally different than the previous one. I've played around with a few settings but everything I do doesn't make a difference. Nothing changes with any settings I make.

I believe changing local css settings wouldn't make a difference. The width of the page is probably hard coded in the layout part of the css.
Why not just resize your window, like most other people do?

Out of curiousity, I decided to try my old CSS settings. Got this far but now I have a dead space inbetween the left and right of the screen....LOL

leather-guy ( ) posted Tue, 17 July 2007 at 2:07 PM

That's what I got this morning. I had changed to the suggested settings in a CSS thread. Changed back to the defaults and it stopped.

I like the new stars! Someone needs to come up awith a rendo-specific button instead of stars. Perhaps a mini 'make art' button?
