JJ,
Could modify this to make an elastic waistband?

I'm not aware of anything hexagon specific.
Here's an example of how it's done in Lightwave. Commands and tools may be called something slightly different, but general approach is about the same.

If you want something simpler, you could start with an irregular zigzag going around the waist, then extrude it to get some height...

Unless you'll be rendering some extreme closeups, I'd probably just go with a bump map for that. Select the polys in the waistband and apply a cylindrical UV to it, use an image of irregular vertical lines across the horizontal length of the mapped area.
If you really want to model the geometry, it would have to be pretty dense as the folds/wrinkles would be very close together, and a lot of them. Not familiar with Hex myself, but from a general modeling standpoint the "gear primitive in Sub D" (with a lot of teeth on the gear) would pretty much be what you'd actually be doing.
Like a cylinder with every other row of points pulled outward slightly from the rest. Then manipulated slightly so they wouldn't be all too uniform looking. If Hex has a noise or jitter feature, that would make quick work of the non uniformity. If not, just random selection of points in the area and slight moving and scaling would be needed.

Wow thanks alot for all the advice.
After taking a break then coming back to this, I realize what a "gear primative" is lmao. So I take back what I said before Pat.
I think I'm going to try it both ways when I get to that. First with the texture map then If that doesn't look right Ill do the modeling.

I've been working on a pair of boxers for Apollo. This is the first thing I've modeled. (well real thing) - and I'm very new to the process.
I'm using Hex now to model with.
Does anyone have any ideas about what would be the best way to make an elastic looking wasteband for the boxers. You know the folds the material gets when there is elastic under.
Any tips, ideas, tutorials will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!
