Poser Python Scripting F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Sep 18 2:50 am)

We now have a ProPack Section in the Poser FreeStuff.
Check out the new Poser Python Wish List thread. If you have an idea for a script, jot it down and maybe someone can write it. If you're looking to write a script, check out this thread for useful suggestions.

Also, check out the official Python site for interpreters, sample code, applications, cool links and debuggers. This is THE central site for Python.

You can now attach text files to your posts to pass around scripts. Just attach the script as a txt file like you would a jpg or gif. Since the forum will use a random name for the file in the link, you should give instructions on what the file name should be and where to install it. Its a good idea to usually put that info right in the script file as well.

Subject: Apollo's Line of Sight tool

I'm looking for a script that moves Apollo's Line of Sight tool directly in front of the current camera.

For you not familar with Apollo Maximus, he has a Line of Sight tool that controls his eyes.  He looks at this poseable cross-hair-looking model that you move around the scene.  His eyes follow.

But putting that Line of Sight tool right in front of the camera so it appears that Apollo is looking directly into the camera, takes a lot of dial turning.

It seems an easy enough script if it doesn't already exist.  Find location of current camera, re-locate the Line of Sight tool to that position - or idealy, slightly in front of the camera, so that you could still see the Line of Sight tool instead of it dissappearing into the camera.

Anyone got anything?

You don't need a script to do it, just select a eye go to Object/Point at... menu then select the main camera, do the same with the other eye, now the eyes will follow the camera but not the Line_of_Sight. Hope it helps.

Yeah, thanks, some one over at CP gave me that workaround and it does work....

However, I'd still like a script.

In Poser 7 it would be 2 clicks to get Apollo to look at the camera.

Do it manually to each eye is a total of 10 clicks.  And that's not even counting the time it takes to scroll through the Hierarchy.

Time is money...

another quicky non script quicky way would be to parent the sight tool to the camera after first placing it by the camera(that is, if it is not parented to the figure)

The LOS tool is not allowed to be parented to anything.  The option is grayed out in the menu.

"Point at" doesn't work since Apollo always looks at the LOS tool and "point at" doesn't physical move the LOS.
