Subject: New Forum - New Gallery - Looky looky

As far as I know there has been no announcement of this outside of the critique thread, which I know many members of that group don't even read.

A week or so ago Karen managed to get us that new gallery and forum for critiqing (i never remember how to spell that word).

I haven't noticed alot of activity there so I assume possibly that many still aren't aware of it.  It would be nice if we could send messages to everyone who was a member of the group but after looking at the list I don't think that's a challenge I can take on - so this post was my alternative ; )

The forum link is:

The Gallery link is:
http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/browse.php?section_id=47

Neither the gallery or the forum is limited to Poser specific works.

Yeah, you know why I didn't :m_laugh:

Wish we had some special mod ability to do this, but no.

I am hoping we'll get the new forum and gallery on the Front Page announcements, soon, too.

Come to think of it, perhaps we could post this in other more active forums....
I'm not sure how much crossover there is between Poser and other forums.

karen: Question, can you post the same image to the normal gallery on the same day or are you shafted from that POV!
i.e. one day, one upload!

It's still one upload a day, Gwyn, but you could post a reduced res version direct to the forum... no limits on that. Although we might all get annoyed if you post 12 a day :-D

*Ha! I'm lucky if I get the time to do 1 in a week, never mind 12 a day!!  [ROFL]

But... to elaborate on this, one doesn't HAVE to post in the critiqie gallery to get critique. The image can be added directly to the forum. The 200K limit still applies, but people have been able to do a LOT with 200K
This thread is a great example of just how much of an image can be stuffed within 200K!

Also, you can still post your image in your usual galleries (I dunno, let's say Vue/Landscape), and add a link to it in a critique forum asking for critiques. You may miss some people whom go to the gallery only. It looks like a lot of people are going to the critique forum first, so I'm not under the impression you'd be missing a lot.

Excellent work, Karen !!

ghonma ( ) posted Mon, 30 July 2007 at 12:34 PM

Very cool ! So now that it has it's own forum, i assume that you can post work from any media/app ?

I'v wanted to take part in the group but was hesitant cause it seemed like a poser only deal.

"" i assume that you can post work from any media/app""

Yes,  it is suggested though that you mention what you are using or what parts you'd like to get feedback on, or what you were going for.  Those of us not familiar with your "brand" might not be able to give feedback on technical aspects - but we'll usually chime in with a useful point or two anyway ; )

Oh no, I could never put my work up to be criticised, trodden on, chewed & then spat out. My fragile ego couldn't take it.

Actually this is a good idea, thanks for putting this here. I knew about the club but just never gave it much thought. I just need to get some artwork done though! I must have had ten pieces of work started in this past month alone, none of them will see the light of day. I have so many ideas in my head but rarely they translate into my work....sigh.

Well, sotrmy, if nothing else works.... All your friends are doing it!!

I know, not exactly a convincing argument... but who knows ;)

On a serious note, That's exactly what I thought at first... my ego won't be able to handle it, and I'll just end up getting bummed out and arguing with people.  Just the opposite happened. I found the feedback very positive, helpful and stimulating (encouraging to do more).
And one stands to pick up all kinds of technical tips tioo!

Also, people whom know how to do things, and can offer input and help (artistic and technical) are needed as well.

To add to that encouragement - if my art can handle it, then yours CERTAINLY can.  Of course if you do too well I might have to wander over into the food fight thread and throw something at you : p

Sounds like one big mass artistic orgy.........I'm in! :thumbupboth:

jj - Be careful what you throw at me. Remember who's doing your character, so be nice!

When I complete my next piece, hopefully this year!, I may put it up for criticism. I may add though that I'm my biggest critic. Everytime I put something into the gallery I'm pretty pleased with it at first. Then it's time to notice the errors, & boy once you notice them they have a way of totally ruining what you originally thought was good.

drifterlee ( ) posted Mon, 30 July 2007 at 2:48 PM

I just heard about it yesterday. It's a great idea. When I browse all the galleries, is it included? I really need someone to teach me atmospheric lighting and the one tutorial by RGUS, I think, I don't understand and couldn't get it to work for me. I pay for three pics a day, although I hardly ever upload that many, so problem renders for me I can now upload to the critique gallery. Great idea!

If I told ya and didn't make ya guess I'd be breaking one of the long standing Women Rules and other women like Acadia, Connie, Karen would have to hunt me down.  That's no good.

well, on a serious note....
As I was making a few comments in galleries today an idea struck me (left a sizeable bump on my head too)
Some of us could add a copy and paste paste comment in addition to regular comments, to promote the critique group, saying something to the effect:

" Note to all: If you wish to participate in a productive discussion about how to improve artistic and technical abilities while discussing your own and other people's images, please visit the new 'critique forum': http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showforum.php?forum_id=12474 "
