Hey everybody! I'm working on a new figure, and wanted to know what others thought about him. I'm currently tweaking the rigging. I haven't made any morphs yet. He's about 40k polys, give or take. If you have any questions, comments, critiques, let 'em rip.

...and here's a headshot.

Is he primarly going to be use for Anime??  He looks really good!! I like the conforming goatee prop there and the seperate eyebrows.  You might want to make the eyebrows a bit fatter so folks can give him a "rough" look!!   His over all body shape is very pleasing as well!!  😄

Looks great! Feet are perhaps a little squarish in shape. hard to tell from the pic. Ears look a little high.. they should be between eye and nose level.

Looks like he has no eyelashes.... I'd add them, so a female morph could be done in similar style.

Brows can be handled in morphs for styles. Ram mentions a convorming goatee.. but yo udid not. I would make a conforming one, instead of building it into the mesh, or at least make sure it's geometry isn't attached to the mesh, and there is a jaw underneath, so it could also be hidden.

Well, I don't know about Anime, but I definitely consier him tooney. His body shape is basically Robin from the Teen Titans (which, come to think of it , is anime influenced) with some other influences. The goatee is currently part of his head, (he has a mustache, too, it's just transparent) I thought it would be easier to match the mouth morphs that way, and if you don't like it just change transparency. I was planning to include morphs for the eyebrows, to change the thickness and shape.

He has very tiny eyelashes, which could be morphed larger.

You're probably right about the ears, I'll play with that, and see what I think.

RAMWorks ( ) posted Sat, 11 August 2007 at 1:13 PM

Oh so cool.  I really like this figure the more I look at him!  I love actually like the idea of the goatee and stach being part of him with options to make transparent so face morphs are not an issue.  I think that's really smart, imho!!

Love to see more!! 😄

Both a mustache or goatee could easily be hidden with a mat pose, or even morphs, (morphs as long as the mesh is not attached to the head itself). mat poses also work as well.

I'd make the eyelashes larger, and then morph them down to the current size, to reduce distortion if they are used larger. Sideburns might also be interesting. here is a head proportion reference image:

Actually a full beard would be very nice too!!  That way it could be zoned for a goatee, mustache, sideburns, etc....... YUMMY!!

Here's his head in profile, as you can see, his ears are a bit high, and I may change that a bit, but he's also really stylized, so I'm not too worried about matching real human proportions. Also, you can see his 'stache in this render.

..and one more for now, orthographic from the front, sans goatee, but with mustache. I gotta go spend some time with my kids, now, but I'll check back later.

Gareee ( ) posted Sat, 11 August 2007 at 2:54 PM

maybe just add a morph to lower or raise the ears.. the propertons liook good in profile follwing the zawline, and his face structure is similar to the attendant in the fairy godmother's factory in shrek 2

Yea simple up-down & front-back morphs for the ears would be cool!!

Well, I can still do the morphs, but I've already lowered the ears a bit.

RAMWorks ( ) posted Sat, 11 August 2007 at 3:45 PM

OOoo,  that's nice!!  Are you going to do some elf morphs??  He reminds me a bit of the toy maker that wanted to be a DENTIST from the Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer classic!!  Add some fun hair, a hat and you have him!!

I like this guy, too. And he looks better with the ears a little lower.

I also agree with RamWolff - elf-ear morphs would be very useful!

And I'm SO HAPPY to see someone make a male figure instead of yet another big-boobied female!

Thanks for all your enthusiasm, everyone. Here's another render, as you can see, he's got very sharp scapula!

bouncypig ( ) posted Sat, 11 August 2007 at 4:29 PM

...and very bulbous knees.  I may try to fix that, but part of me kind of likes it.

And you can tell in this render that the rigging on the fingers still needs some work.

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Sat, 11 August 2007 at 5:46 PM

I like his knobbly knees! makes me wanna make him into an old man G

Uhm... Will he have any sorts of genitals?

I really wasn't planning on giving him any. Maybe I'm a prude, but I kind of think of my figures as toys, action figures, not anatomical reference. He doesn't even have nipples. He could probably borrow Michaels package if you really wanted.

RAMWorks ( ) posted Sat, 11 August 2007 at 6:20 PM

Your going to sell him then??  I hope!

He needs a lot more work before I make that decision.

RAMWorks ( ) posted Sat, 11 August 2007 at 7:53 PM

Okey dokey.  I think he's sellable but you keep fiddling with him and get him done and then go for it.  You got a sale!!! 😄

Did you do this in Quidim? Has the same kind of look.to it.

bouncypig ( ) posted Sun, 12 August 2007 at 12:14 AM

No, actually I box modeled him from scratch in Silo.

jonthecelt ( ) posted Tue, 14 August 2007 at 4:00 AM

From the headshots you've done of him with goatee and tache, I would just love to use this guy to create an amie Olliver Queen (aka Green Arrow) - he looks just made for the image!
