Subject: Finding the vertices count?

cyberscape ( ) posted Sun, 12 August 2007 at 12:11 AM · edited Wed, 22 January 2025 at 11:01 PM

I've been wondering if there is a way to get an accurate vertices count of a loaded figure in Poser. Specifically, counts for V2, V3, V4, Laura, Sydney and Judy. Unless I'm wrong, it seems like Aiko3 and S3 are identical to V3?
Anyway, just curious as to how to find this out. Be it through Poser or UV mapper or any other program.
Please advise and thanks!

UVmapper gives you all of those numbers.  Load the OBJ and hit
Tools / Statistics.

Freeware modelers should do it too. Wings, for example.

Here's a quickie script that gives you the vertices by body part and  the total as well.  Rename the attached file to CountVerts.py before using.

Great script, Ockham. Thanks!! Now, what is centermass stuff? Does that refer to the xyz crosshairs?

Also, and this is interesting.... UV mapper says 72712 verts for V3, and the script says 74826?
If I remember correctly, your script is more accurate. ....something about 74 rings a bell.

Anyway, I was just curious about this and couldn't seem to find out how to locate this info in Poser  ....y'kno, that 3D wannabe program that we all love (to hate) so much.

Thanks again!

BTW, for some odd reason my computer HATES Wings3D! Dunno why but, I wish it didn't!

The difference is because when Poser splits the mesh into groups, the vertices along each seam get doubled.

Also Mike 3, The Freak, Luke, Laura, She Freak and several others.  They are the same mesh.

The Center of Mass stuff is those 'handles' that were added in P6,
allegedly to adjust the balance of the figure.  I had to treat them
separately because Poser treats them as body parts, but they're
not really part of the mesh.  They are separate icon OBJs like the
camera and spotlight icons.  So, if you want the total 'weight' of the
figure to compare drawing speed or something, I suppose
you'd include them.

Sam has it right. The entire Unimesh line is based off the same geometry. The only differences are between how those figures are grouped. This is why morphs arent univeral. (That and it lets you sell a seperate pack of morphs for every figure.) I use LW to determin my points/polys.

I'm dying of curiosity now...
Cyberscape, why do you need to know the exact count of vertices?

Thanks for the input! Now I can continue my experiment!

"I'm dying of curiosity now..."

Careful, Conniekat! We all know what curiosity did to the proverbial cat !!!
I don't wanna say too much as I'm still working out this brainstorm I've been having. Let's just say it involves V2, Laura and a python script. If it works, I'll definitely be showing it off!
