Subject: Video Tuts for Carrara Pro6

I guess this is to Mark.  I viewed your introduction free vids on getting around Carrara interface and I must say they are very well done.  Your professional teaching style is great by the way.   Will you be updating the purchased version tutorials with the features of CP6? I'd like to view them but I don't know if its better to wait as things will be different.

Cheers

Radio Guy.

Hi RG, Thanks for the kind words! Yes, I'll be doing a C6 tutorial. However, VTC has a backlog in production and hasn't given me the go-ahead to begin. But, they let me know that as quick as the can get caught up, it's a go. The C5 tutorials are still very valuable because the things that are covered in those are the same in C6. Of course the things like Poser content, hair, the ocean primitive, and some of the vertex modeling and shader additions aren't covered. However, to use those new features well, a sound understanding of everything that comes before them is probably a good idea. ;-) If you have any specific questions about some of the C6 additions, just post them up! Mark

What software is used to make video turorials?

Well gosh notefinger, I use Carrara. ;-) I believe that they're run through a Quicktiime/FinalCut Pro work flow. I've prepared a couple of other series for them (Poser 7 and SoundTrack Pro) and I think that's what they ran everything through. Personally, I provide them witht a Quicktime movie for each session.

I have a request when it comes to video tutorials. Remember the "Painting with Alexander" shows and painting with the "mighty brush?" He would take a half hour and paint one scene and all the issues that went along with the painting. I'd like like to see that done with Carrara. Take something like a landscape, portrait, still life and work with all the issues that went with that project.  That way one could learn more about advanced techniques and work flow.

MarkBremmer ( ) posted Thu, 13 September 2007 at 2:36 PM

I agree that would be excellent. It's always a toss-up between "here's how you use the program" and "Here's how you do project X". Since my charge was to explain how to use Carrara, that had to come first. How to effectively work in 3D is a different topic. I tried to do that as much as possible like, for example, during the Shader section on how to build complex shaders. But you're right, there is something to be learned whenever you can watch a person do the whole thing. So, if I do the Painting with Alexander thing, does that entitle me to do cheesy landscapes with snow capped peaks in the background while gushing about the emotive requirements of the work? ;-)

Yes ! Do the landscapes and mountains with a cheesy topping.

Thanks Mark.  I'll probably go that route then next weekend .     I think Notefinger is on to something .  It's a great idea for working through a project from scratch  type lesson.  You'd have a large audience for those too  I'm sure.

Cheers

I'm curious about how you record the screen capture : ) Do you use a full version of a mac program? R

Well I'm 2 thirds the way through Marks tutorials and they are well worth the cost.  I'm doing the pay as you go online streaming without a hitch.  There is so much to Carrara that I've still can't believe all that's included.

An aside for those looking at screencasting software the longtime opensource free one has finally been upgraded.

Nice job Mark!  Folks I highly recommend viewing Mark's work.  I signed up for the rest of the tutorials and they do assist a bunch with Carrara 6pro.  Mark is able to make make Carrara's rendering look like they come from Max or Maya.
