Subject: How about creating a real looking turkey for poser

tabbycat2 ( ) posted Thu, 20 September 2007 at 11:48 AM · edited Sun, 10 November 2024 at 7:17 AM

I have come to tell you all that there is avoid in the 3d modeling world.  Yes you heard me right a void.  It has come to my attention that no real looking 3d model TURKEY exists.  This is a down right tragedy being so close to Thanksgiving and all.  My eyeballs are red and my fingers are sore surfing the 3d model world for two weeks with no turkey to be had.  I found a toon turkey but the void is a turkey that looks real.

I am too new to the 3d modeling to be able to create the turkey myself so I need a  hero who can come through with a real looking tom turkey in his autumn colors with a posable tail  and feathers.  Feathers being ruffled or smooth on the body.  And as long as you do that, also the female turkey with babes would be great.

I have a mess of real turkey images if that would help.

Turkeyless,
Alice

The is a cooked turkey that I know of.  Can't remember where though, but it's a market product, not a freebie.

There are some roosters and chickens here:

It's not a download site though. You order and get sent a CD with your files on it.

And if you want anything from there it's closing at the end of the year.

There's also a rooster at content paradise in their zodiac series. There's a thread in the forums there asking for model suggestions. Someones already asked for a turkey so I've added an extra vote for you.

tabbycat2 ( ) posted Thu, 20 September 2007 at 3:46 PM

Thanks everyone for your kind replies.

I already have all the chickens and roosters from VIP web site.  That is a great
web site to get animal models from and the owner is super nice.

Ok  Cooked Turkey Dinner or Thanksgiving Dinner is ps-ac031 and if enough
people send a message to their sales department I am sure they would bring it back.
Yes, we will have to buy it.  I have already sent in my request that they bring it back.

But what I am really asking is for a 3d model of a live wild turkey.
With posable feathers and tail.   The kind you see in greeting cards
and on the Wild Turkey whiskey bottles.  I only look at the stuff I don't drink it (hiccup-oops)

I already have the toon turkey which is really fun and cute.
But a wild tom  turkey in full autumn colors and able to strut his fine self, well,
this is the model I am seeking.  I'm too new at 3d modeling to make it myself but
I do have a lot of gorious wild turkey gifs and jpgs images I could share.

So this year, let's get a wild turkey for Alice, lol.

Awwww, close but no cigar on that URL.

Those are only textures and bump maps for, you guessed it, the Daz3d Thanksgiving

sure they will bring it back.

My heartfelt thanks to all who have responded to my turkey-less wanderings.

Great ideas you two.

I love Noggins critters.  I have several of them.  Pestering poor Noggin sounds right.

Ok I have songbird remixed.  Nice to know KenG did the work.  I believe I will be
pesterding KenG for a turkey, who knows he may just be completing one.

Thanks

Ok I have chatted with Noggins about creating a turkey.

He wants to create a black turkey  sometime.

I offered hims the suggestion, I got from this forum, about using a pheasant or some
other bird base to make a turkey out of it.  Hope that inspires him.

Nice person Noggins is.

Ok got my target on KenG now for contact.  Does anyone know  where he hangs out online ?

maybe some work on the noggins peacock?
that tail could be textured and transmaped to look like turkey.
but the rest of the bird would need some morph work done.

I'd also love to have a realistic Tom turkey, with a dark chocolate/black texture.  :)

Our Tom turkey (his name's Cocoa) constantly tries to attack my hubby and everyone that comes to visit.  I'm the only one he likes, and I usually have to 'guard' my hubby when he's working outside, otherwise Cocoa tries sneak attacks when he's bending down or his back is turned.  And he can't just walk outside for any amount of time unless he has his 'turkey stick' to fend Cocoa off.  I think it's hilarious but my hubby gets really pissed.  Tehehe.  :P

Anyway, I want to make a render of Cocoa, to put on his desktop...a nice little suprise when he boots up his comp.  evil grin

Well I have been chatting with Noggins, well more like pleading and begging,
I sent him all the wild turkey images I had, and he might create a turkey or he
might not.  Pleading and beggin don't work like it used to ,lol.

I have not been able to track down KenG, the creator of SongBird Remix.  If
any of you know how to contact him, please let me know or at least warn
him I am looking for him with pleading and begging for a wild tom turkey, lol.

Check out this house  KenG is currently working on.

Ok, KenG said he wants to make a turkey and to have it available in November 2007
but he cant not promise that.  Just in his plans right now.
I told him December is ok for Turkey as long
as the 3d world of models gets at least one turkey.

This will be a live turkey model and not a cooked one.
Going to have posable turkey parts like tail and wings.

So let's keep those fingers cross that this is the year Alice gets her live turkey model.
Thanks.

Hi everyone... I just saw this thread...  I'll talk with Noggin, and between us-- either he or I will produce a turkey for Poser.  If I do it, I'll be leaning towards creating the wild turkey (Meleagris gallopavo) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wild_Turkey). The turkey will actually work in with my plans of creating a ReMix model that has an elongated neck. That will  eventually allow the creation of ducks, egrets, geese, etc. in ReMix format.

I'll keep everyone posted on the turkey progress. and if anyone of you have Songbird ReMix and hasn't been to my website-- there's a large number of updates and freebies for the series in the download section. (http://www.empken.com/SongbirdReMix/).

KenG you have a wonderful web site with a ton of birds.  it was fun exploring the web site
and seeing all the different kinds of birdies.  I downloaded that great cuckoo clock in your
freebie area, yep you do good work.  Got it bookmarked for future buying.

I saw that wild turkey on that link you posted, yep, that is the wild tom turkey that I am
coveting.  Also it being black will fill the needs for the person who wants to make a poser
image of her turkey Cocoa to bug her husband with.

Still-turkey-less but very hopeful,
Alice

I have some great turkey images of the "I am it" pose if makers of a 3d turkey  model would like
me to send them to them.  I already sent them to Noggins.

Come on November !!!   lol, but no pressure.

Ken, while we've got your ear, is there any chance of you making an australian birds add-on for the songbird remix? I know there's already a few australian birds in some of the current sets, but a set of just australian birds would be nice.

Also on the turkey, could you include mats for both wild and the white barnyard turkey?
Thanks

I've been asked before about an Australian bird collection... not surprisng considering half of my beta team is Australian.

I have actually done quite a few Austalian bird (15+ I think),  the problem is they're spread out over several packages...

SBRM "2" - Laughing Kookaburra
Gamebirds- Crested Dove & Wompoo Fruit Dove
Pet Shop- Gouldian Finch, Zebra Finch. Budgerigar, Rainbow Lorikeet & Cockatiel
Parrots- Night Parrot, Crimson Rosella, Galah Cockatoo & Red-tailed Black Cockatoo
Threatened2- Robust Silvereye, Black-eared Miner & Coxen's Fig Parrot
in Freebies- Sulfur-crested Cockatoo & Little Corella

I may do something along the lines of Birds of Australia and New Zealand.  I know there's some common species I haven't created yet-- two parrots are already on the wish list-- the King Parrot and the Kia-- and if I do this, it will be a 2008 release.

I'm always open to requests-- that how European Edition and Gamebirds came to be... and before I get too many barnyard requests-- that's on my list already :)

There was a long thread at DAZ about this.  KenG said he would try, but I don't know what happened.  The "game bird" pack he released didn't have a turkey in it.

The problem was and still is that the Songbird ReMix model simply doesn't have enough neck geometry to allow the bending needed for a turkey neck (or swan, goose, egret for that matter).  I had no time last year (with the amount of other projects I was working on) to create a new or hybrid Songbird ReMix to allow an accurate turkey.  This year, I have set aside some time-- it's just  modeling (especially organic) can sometimes be slow and painful for me, so that's why I've hendged my bets in this and the DAZ thread about when I'll get it done :)

Just a quick status report--

The turkey is coming along well and with any luck I should have it for QA testng by Halloween-- meaning a store appearence at least by mid-November. Here's a couple items I posted in the DAZ forums...

The Turkey will carry the "Songbird ReMix" name but will be a Stand-alone model.  It will have the fold wings morphs, be able to stretch out it's neck and will be able to do the fan tail display.

The other good news is that from the work I've done with the Turkey so far, I can promise Ducks, Geese, Swans, Herons in Songbird Remix format. I'm planning a barnyard set for the Spring 2008.

Okay, gotta get back to work ;)
