Quote - I agree about the spell checker, it would be useful but I've used IE7 and Firefox and I still prefer IE7.
Well, to each his own, I suppose. I used to be a die-hard IE supporter until I tried out Firefox. One word - Flashblock.
IE 7 is just the latest in Microsoft's Nannyware line. Well, the predecessor to the ultimate in Nannyware, that is - Vista....

What's that? You're saying you can't type "fuck" here and have it stick?
Well that sucks. And to think of all the time I spent creating a keyboard shortcut for that word.
Ah yes, so I did. Not used to it, really, being such a generally clean-cut and G-rated guy and all. Sorry about that. :)
But, lest this thread dissolve into OT-Land and the discussion of expletives and those who type them....
I wanna know - I wanna hear it from the PTB or the webmaster - why do you intentionally create code which disables such useful browser functionality?
I've been asking for a spell check ever since the boards converted to PHP. Prior to that the spell check for Mozilla-Firefox worked here just fine.
I'm dyslexic and I depend heaviy on spell checkers and I'm upset that this site no longer has one and that the pleas for it to be reimplemented seem to fall on deaf ears :(

Well I have both my monitors set at 1600 x 1200, and the text is teeny. I can and do use the side wheel on my mouse for zooming, which enlarges the text, but not in the reply field. I can position the cursor outside the reply field, and then ALL text, inside and outside the reply field is zoomed, but not proportionally.
So I end up with huge text outside, just so I can have normal text inside. It's a real pain in the ass, but I have to go through that in order to see if I'm misspelling words or not.
(no, I do not want to increase the font size in either my browser or Windows, for all kinds of reasons)
On other sites it's not a problem, since those words are highlighted and easy to see, but, here... you know.
Before I typed up this thread I had just posted elsewhere on this site, and had to edit it three times for spelling errors. It pissed me off, and it wouldn't have happened if it weren't for this lack of support for this feature in Firefox.
Two things I doubt will happen:
1- Nobody from the staff is going to explain just why they have no interest in changing it.
2- There will not be a built-in spellchecker created for this site.
Reading just about any random page in the Marketplace will demonstrate that proper spelling isn't a priority here, anyway. Or grammar, or even sentence structure...

See Jovial's post in this thread on how to increase the size of your text. I had the same problem as you and couldn't read the screen without practically kissing my monitor. Now I can see it much better.

Well thanks for the suggestion, but like I said above, I don't want to change my font size on my PC or in my browser. It's fine as it is for all my apps.
I have the Logitech MX Revolution laser mouse with a wheel on the side I have set to zoom in - essentially increasing the font size on websites, and that works fine on most sites. On almost all sites. On pretty much every site...
Every site. Well, every site except for one. Can you guess which site that might be? ;-)
Oh, btw, CTRL+"+" (plus sign on the numeric keypad) does the same thing in Firefox. Not sure about IE.
There is really a simple remedy to this "lack-of" Spell-checker issue that I've been using for years.
It's not really any different than typing directly into the reply box...just a simple Copy/Paste operation.
Also...I've found that if I'm interrupted for some reason, or need to re-read it to make sure I'm replying appropriately (such as a knee-jerk reaction)...I can "Save" that reply...and re-edit it and finish it later if I need too.
If the site doesn't offer a Spell Checker...use one of the ones you already have on your machine.
Dual monitors does help to glance back and forth without toggling...but it's the way I've been doing it for years.
I've never used a browser or reply box Spell checker Ever.
I've always used one of my already open Mail Readers.
Just offering up an alternative.

Hell if everyone here did that, there'd hardly be anything to read. ;-)
Yeah, I've done that before, using Word or Eudora... How dare you suggest Outlook to me, IE's evil brother! And I suppose I'll do it again.
Still though, I'm not the only one to have complained about this.
But what gets me is, aside from the cash cow this place has become, suckling off the collective teat of the (I'll be nice here and not use any adjectives) Poser addict, this site seves as an example of the Bondware software. I would think that creating code which disabled brower functions such as spell check (and right-click to copy/paste, and whatever else) would not be a good selling point.
Oh well.

I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.7. It has a spellchecker built in which highlights misspelled words. Right-clicking on said offending text then brings up a list of alternative spellings.
This is a good feature. I like it. Many people like it.
In almost all of the forums I post at, it works in the message box.
In a very, very small number of them, it doesn't. Actually, only one website.
Can you guess which website that might be?
In that one website, it won't even highlight the misspelled words, let alone allow the right-click thing.
Just wondering why and how and why not?
I know I am by far not the only one here using Firefox. We all know Internet Explorer sucks in comparison.
Surely, I'm also not the only one who likes and benefits from the spellchecker in Firefox.
Surely I'm not the only one who would like to see said spellchecking functionailty implemented.
I'm hoping some of you other terminally keyboard-clumsy types will chime in and petetion for the adding of this. I know you're out there.
