Subject: Weird P6 Conforming/Parenting Issue--any help appreciated

the_tdog ( ) posted Sat, 22 September 2007 at 1:17 PM · edited Thu, 15 August 2024 at 12:35 AM

I used to run P6 on a Win2K machine, never had problems for years.  Unfortunately, the machine finally gave up the ghost on me, and I had to install P6 on a new computer, which runs Vista.

Generally speaking, P6 works well on it, but I've noticed some glitches I've never seen before.

In particular, props and hair that are "parented" to a figure don't always move with the figure when you pose it.  I can  move a figure around, and the hair will stay in place. (EDIT: in other words, the figure will move, but the hair will stay where it was, and not move with the figure.)   It was parented, but it doesn't move.  If I use a pose to move the figure around, the hair and prop moves like it's supposed to.  But if I use dials, they won't.

A very annoying version of this problem comes along with V4.  If I move her, her teeth and tongue don't move, leaving a nasty set of dentures hanging in mid-air when I rotate her.

I have no such problems with "figure" hair that you conform, just "prop" hair, like all .hr2 objects, as well as props parented to the figure.

Anybody seen an issue like this or know of a fix?  Thanks in advance.

Hmmm...
I can't believe that this is anything to do directly with the operating system - there's no way it should be able to interfere with the graphics.

I suspect that it may be an OpenGL issue.

I've also had some (very occasional) similar glitches in Poser 6 with stuff not moving properly in the preview screen, but after moving the camera slightly all snapped back into place.
And I'm still running Win 2K (have been for years - still got the original CDs).

I suspect that you might need to check that your video card drivers are up to date..

Cheers,
Diolma

I think the Service Releases addressed this - you got them all applied to the re-installation as well, I am assuming.    I recall having some problems with eyeballs which didn't move with the figures !  That got resolved with graphics card driver updates and also applying the SRs to Poser 6.  ( I've moved to Poser 7 now, though.)

I'll try these fixes, I appreciate your suggestions!

I'm running 6 in Vista 64 with no issues but I am running it under XP compatability as EF said to do that because they were aware of some issues, what issues they didn't say, but it works ok here!
