You'll get lots of differnt views on this, Keenart helped me with my recent one, below:
Asus P5K-E Mobo
Q6600 Quad core processor
8 Gig RAM
8600GT Nvidia graphics
2 x 250 Gig HD's in Raid 1 array.
Don't bother with PC world, go to your local small store, if they're like mine they'll know shed loads more, be more helpful and give you a better price without all the crap you don't need that's installed on computers from PC world!
Injustice will be avenged.
Cofiwch Dryweryn.
64-bit really does dramatically reduce render times.
Even if it hurts your wallet, you will not regret the upgrade if you love Vue and Poser.
My system is:
Win XP Pro64
Tyan Thunder mobo
2x AMD Opteron 265 dualcore processors
8 gig RAM
NVidia GeForce 7600 GS graphic card
120 gig C drive plus a terabyte and a half spread over several other drives.
Don't forget an unterruptible power supply with line conditioning if you live in an area with wobbly power. Spikes and sags over time can kill RAM and motherboards. The lights in my house briefly dim when my neighbor's air-conditioning kicks in, so a UPS is a must.
Take Fixer's advice and avoid PC World like the plague. If you don't wish to build it yourself, have it built by an outfit that knows how to build graphics-oriented machines. I live in Tennessee, but had mine built by AVADirect, a Russian company in New Jersey. It's been rock-solid. My only complaint is that the fans are louder than I'd like. I'll eventually replace them with low noise floor fans.
Happy hunting and speedy rendering!
yeah we had a thread on this not long ago :)
my rig is similar to thefixer's, IIRC, jsut I have an 8600GT video card and a Core Duo not quad and 2 gig RAM, as I don't use a 64 bit operating system.
also, get Antec 900 gamer case, seriously very neat case for PC, very cool, lots of space etc :)

Can anyone advise me as to which Processor would be the best option to upgrade to?
I use Poser 7 & Vue 6 - but will obviously want to be upgrading in order to take advantage of the 64bit tech - does it really make that much difference on render times ect and would I just be wasting money if I upgrade to:
INTEL
BX80562Q6600
CORE 2 QUAD Q6600 SOCKET LGA775 PROCESSOR - as it is pretty expensive - would you notice much difference between this and say:
INTEL
BX80537T7400
CORE 2 DUO MOBILE T7400 SOCKET M PROCESSOR
I would also be looking to upgrade to 8gig of memory - not sure which Graphics card to go for though - any suggestions??
Finally I was looking to get an Asusboard - any veiws would be helpfull
There's no point asking the likes of PCWorld any of the above as they seem to have VERY little knowledge on anything these days - just interested in sell sell SELL £££
Many thanks and Ilook forward to you suggestions,
John
