Subject: MAJOR TRAUMA!!! Please help me!

Oh no!!! I had a logo worked up for our dance troupe in Illustrator, and it was really nice. We loved it. I had opened it, and printed from it several times. It was saved in AI format. Now, when I go to open the file, it reads "Can't open the illustration. ID = -50"

I don't know why it's suddenly doing this. Please help, is there any way I can get our logo back???

Thank you so very very much!

Upon further investigation, I can open the file correctly in acrobat  professional. Is there a way to export the vector from this format?

Did your filename have any special characters in it? Have you tried to rename the file?

If you can save as a PDF then illustrator should be able to open the PDF.

Sounds like a corrupted Ai file…not that uncommon….
That has happen to me on several occasions (turned out to be corrupted fonts).

What saved the day was instead of “opening” the file (which I couldn’t), I created a new blank document (File>New Document) the size of the original then “placed” my original file (File>Place) into that.

That should at least get your file into Illi, so you can then fix whatever became corrupted.
