For the hairstyle you want, perhaps you could use a texture overlay on the head texture, inside of the Materials Room.
Or you could use a "skull cap" hair such as the Universal Skull Caps ( available commercially in this store, but I don't think Miki has one.
Actually, doesn't E-frontier provide skull caps for their figures - dig around for those in your default Poser runtime.

Or you could download the freebie Miki Hair I have in my freebies galllery and load any of the hair items. Then just delete the hair portions of the prop and take the remaining skullcap back into the hair room to grow your own Miki hair on. You can find my freebie here:

Hi, I am following the tut in the Poser 7 manual for growing hair on a figure and getting lost when it comes down to creating a skull cap for a figure not provided by e-frontier, like miki. It seems like i have to make a skullcap, no problem, but then what, bring that into another program that does UV mapping and create hari group zones? Lost me. I tried just growing hair on the figure head, but that was a disaster. But is that what I am supposed to do? Here is a pic of what I am trying to do, I just need to put some hair and a ponytail on the figure that somwhat matches the sketch in the backgound:
