Subject: Help...my morphs stop morphing!

Seaview123 ( ) posted Fri, 12 October 2007 at 11:40 AM · edited Thu, 26 February 2026 at 3:54 AM

Hi all. I haven't read anything about this in the forums, or books, but...

Sometimes when working with a figure, the morphs stop working. I can adjust the wheels and change the morph, but the prop/figure doesn't show the changes. This happens usually after working with a figure for a while, or when loading a premade figure group or loading a previously saved scene.

Does anybody know what to do when this happens? Is there some kind of python script or something that can restore the morph functions?

Thanks for your help...

I've had this happen to me also, where I wasn't seeing a change when setting certain dials. I'd go to another one and that would change though.  I'd also like to know the answer to this.

Is this on a second figure in your scene? say a second V3 or M3 for instance??

Thefixer is alluding to the problem of injecting morphs into a second figure in a scene and then trying to morph it.  You can't.  It's a well known problem and the only workaround is to create and morph your figures individually, ie, with no other figures in the scene, save them out and so on until you have all the necessary figures to build your final scene.

This may seem like a pain in the backside but it's actually conducive to good workflow, since you should always build your scene elements in such a way that you can recreate it if/when Poser decides to die on you.

Sorry for jumping in there, Gwyn.

I get this on occasion, it seems to occur after loading in certain clothing models.  I can't remember what ihad loaded, but basically afterwards certain aspects of V4 didn't work.  Not just morphs but I was unable to turn, bend etc. the neck or head.

For me, it was just adding V3's body and face morphs to her.

Well from the answers it doesn't appear to be what we were thinking anyway buddy!
I gotta say I don't know why this is happening if it's not the multiple figure issue!

Have you all got the required SR's?

What's SR's? Serial Registration?

I had the V3 free base and brought the head and body morphs. Then tried to applied them. They appeared in the parameters window. Most dials showed changed when I applied, but (a small few...like 3 or 4)didn't.

SR - Service Release.  Basically, they're bug fixed released by eFrontier from time to time.  You can get them from their site.

LOL I was way off on that one. I'll learn the lingo one of these days. 😄And no I don't have the Service Release. I'll go and get them now.

Thanks guys.

Happens to me too and it's usually an indication that I need to save my scene and reboot my computer to recover my memory :)

Which ones didn't? Some of the morphs have pretty subtle effects.

For instance, African 1 and African 2. African 2 wouldnt move her face but if you used African 1, you saw the face move. Like that. And others I cant remember off the top of my head, but they didnt affect my final outcome. I got the body I wanted. I still wish to know the answer...for future reference.

Oh just remembered...one of the slants wouldn't work. Slant 1 or slant 2 for the eyes.

Thanks for the help so far... One more idea to add...

I read that Poser 6 can only support a limited number of morphs in any scene. So say you have a V3 character with about 30 morphs for stuff like head shape, body changes, etc, then you add a hair that has 30 or so morphs, then a conforming clothing item or two... the morphs start to add up.

Does anybody know if there's a limit to how many morphs you can have, and does this explaination make sense?

Thanks everyone.

Never heard of that one.  The only morph problems I've ever encountered are as I stated above plus one that applies with "Superconforming" clothes, as made by Hongyu.

Hongyu's clothes, btw, are superb but you really have to follow the Readme instructions to the letter, else the built in morphs won't work.
