I just wanted to comment on the pre-release version of GeoControl 2 and state how fabulous it is. If you have a license for GC1, you can try the pre-release at no cost for a period of time. You might want to check out the site. http://www.cajomi.de/GeoControl/geocontrol.htm

I have been working with it for a while and am soooooooooo impressed with it. While a few of the functions are not yet working, the program is very stable. It introduces a new way of working using Isolines. Johannes (Cajomi) has written some great tutorials for getting started as well as working with some of the advanced tools. Also, there is a thread under How To on how to bring the exported tif into Vue using the function editor that is dynamite. The terrain comes in with great detail.

This is a great program!

Forget my ramblings in that post and go the Cajomi's way; you will get terrains which are unbelievably crisp (e.g. earlier this day I was checking WM2 Pro terrains using WM2 preview and Vue renders down to the SINGLE PIXEL level at 2048x2048).

Bye!!!

P.S.: I own GC1, am beta testing GC2 and are one of the lucky testers of WM2: if you are serious about terrain generation, you have to get BOTH; they are different enough to complement each other nicely.

GIMP 2.7.4, Inkscape 0.48, Genetica 3.6 Basic, FilterForge 3 Professional, Blender 2.61, SketchUp 8, PoserPro 2012, Vue 10 Infinite, World Machine 2.3, GeoControl 2

I have to agree with Paula, GeoControl 2 is a leap ahead for those of us trying to create more realistic terrains.  I have worked in Bryce, MojoWorld, Carrara and Vue and none of them have the level of control with the ease of use that the new GeoControl 2 shows.  An amazing program...highly recommended.

I must agree with (alexcoppo) World-Machine 1.25 is Fantastic and I am already savoring World-Machine 2's soon release. The price is going to be right also. At $40 for WM1 owners you can hardly beat that. Also WM1 exports terrains in about 10 different formats. One being a POV-RAY 16 bit Height Map that you can use in the Terrain Picture function to creat a terrain in Vue and WM2 will Export the Terrains as an Object Mesh if you wish!!!
World-Machine2

Is there an alternative to GeoControl or World Machine for Macintosh users?

chippwalters ( ) posted Sat, 24 November 2007 at 11:56 PM

Yep, it does look like a winner. I saw the isolines video earlier and it is quite impressive.

Hi Chipp,

Could you please tell me where I could view the isolines video, what is the web address?
