Subject: Questions about Ball Joint Doll 2 and BJD 1

BastBlack ( ) posted Sun, 02 December 2007 at 4:36 AM · edited Wed, 24 July 2024 at 2:05 AM

I have a few questions for BJD 2 owners: BJD 1 by MayaX (StudioMaya) http://market.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/index.php?ViewProduct=51396&vendor=4180 BJD 2 by MayaX (StudioMaya) http://market.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/index.php?ViewProduct=59578&vendor=4180 Is the only difference between BJD 1 and BJD 2 the head (So clothing and morphs for Type 1 will work on Type 2)? There are Animedoll and Maya Doll heads for BJD 2? (I have both of them) Is BJD 2 an upgrade from BJD 1? confused I just love the DreamofDoll type guy figures. So cute! ^^ I am considering getting BJD 2 for the more DOD head shape, but I would like to use the BJD type 1 Boy morph on it. Can that be done? ducancopy_1.jpg bB

I'm having a hard time believing that the Dreamofdoll site is 3D. Absolutely stunning photos and attention to detail to be sure (drool), but is it possible this is an actual doll site, not our Poser BJD?
All clues seem to point to these being physical dolls, there are no indications of 3D products or compatability....

The product page description for BJD 2 says:

*"This is a new body. However, it is compatible with BJD before. "

*There doesn't seem to be an upgrade from BJD1 - I presume because this is classed as a completely new figure.

Files are also included to give the Anime and Maya Dolls ball-joint figures.

I too would  like a little more clarification from someone who own both versions.

I do not own those Dolls ball-joint figures, but have ever looked at them.
This dreamofdoll site is really stunning. It's indeed real dolls (sort of tunning ones), but i guess it's destined to collections regards to the prices oO

I would be very happy to have a character like the one BB posted above!! :woot:

I really like this fantasy style (reminds me of FF9)

DoD is definitely a real-world physical doll site, not 3D. Great-looking stuff, though.

Yes, Dream of Doll is a Korean real Ball Joint Doll store. They have great stuff! The Korean guy fashions kick butt! I would *LOVE* to have some of those guy outfits in 3D! SO CUTE!!! ^^ Believe it or not, 3d is more affordable. oO;;;; Here's a list of the major BJD companies if you want to look around get inspired. ^^ http://www.abjds.com/forum/showthread.php?t=95 I tried doing some head morphs on StudioMaya's BDJ 1 to get a DreamofDoll type look, but the head size is too large for that. I was thinking BJD 2 might work. Hmm..... Maybe I should just get BJD 2 and try to make my own version of the DOD look and create a new boy morph? bB

Sure thing. Glad you're having fun looking around. ^^ You mean the BJD in 3d, or one of the real Dollfies I have posted on this thread? Duncan (first picture) is from DreamofDream. Tthe 2nd picture is Migidoll Ryu Head on a Senior Delf body. I found him here: http://another2am.com/eyecandy/?cat=3

I've been seriously considering buying BJD simply to scare the hell out of Claire.  She really, really hates dolls.  And clowns. Hehe

Those dolls are lovely! But I wouldn't feel comfortable ordering from a company that requires you to send them a copy of your credit card and id.

I have both versions of BJD. I had to buy BJD1 before BJD 2 would work. So I'm guessing 2 is an upgrade.  The sale page and read me for BJD 2 does say BJD 1 is needed. And the promo at Studio Maya says BJD2 is for BJD..

BastBlack ( ) posted Sun, 02 December 2007 at 9:19 PM

SamTherapy, good to see you back. Yeah, dolls can be creepy and they do creep people out. But I appreciate all the creativeness invested in the Asia BJDs. Thanks for the scoop on Maya's BJD2, SoCalRoberta. So with both of BJD, you have 4 bodies and 4 head shapes?

SoCalRoberta ( ) posted Sun, 02 December 2007 at 9:31 PM

No, there are a total of 5 CR.2s.
BJD 1 has 2 bodies ( BJD_hi and BJD_lo) and BJD 2 has 3 (BJD_type2, BJD_AD, BJD_MD)
There are no separate heads.
I don't have the BJD boy so I can't tell you what's in that one.

BastBlack ( ) posted Mon, 03 December 2007 at 12:17 PM · edited Mon, 03 December 2007 at 12:29 PM

Okay. Thanks for the scoop. I bought BJD Type 2. Yes, it is an expansion pack for Ball Joint Doll 1.

The body shape between Type 1 and Type 2 looks the same but the geometry is different. The Head is not.

I was able to export the "Dollfie" head morph and eyes as a morph target to Ball Joint Boy. I did this because the Boy body morph for Type 1 is not compatible with Type 2. The problem I ran into is that "Boy" face morph does not look that good with the "Dollfie" face morph (there is out puffiness around the lower eye). No problem though, I was planning to  make a custom face anyway. -^

Something else interesting, the BDJ Type 2 face morphs into the Maya Doll face! If the head can morph, why is it set up as a new figure? My guess if because of the UVmaps. If you turn off the MayaDoll face and it reverts back to BDJ, the UV maps goes way off.  Hmm.... I will have to look at the UV maps... I think the MayaDoll head has V3's UVmap, but I have to check.....

Meanwhile I did some looking around at Volks.  Check out the cuteness! ^^
