Subject: Newbie bought Vue 6 Xtreme

drifterlee ( ) posted Fri, 07 December 2007 at 4:44 AM · edited Sun, 24 November 2024 at 6:28 PM

Hi, I just got Vue 6 Xstream and I tried to open some free stuff from here - the .vob files and Vue 6 says it can't read it. Are other versions and older versions of Vue stuff compatible with Vue 6 Xstream? I'm so new I haven't read the manual yet, I just dived right in. Can someone point me to some good beginner tutorials? Thanks, Sherrie

Files from older versions should work for you.  I make products in 5Inf and they work in 6Inf (I only do that so people still using older versions can use them)

Make sure your Vue is fully updated - if you go the the file menu there's an option to check for updates.  You can also set the prog to check for updates automatically.

Hopefully, that should fix your problem.

There are some tutorials in the backroom here, some at Cornucopia and some good video tuts at geekatplay.com

Compatibility goes back only until Vue 4. Files older than that (3.1 etc) that you still can find here in Renderosity free stuff can not be read. They need to be converted. A converter for Windows is on the installation CD. But be carefull and never use it on originals.

Thanks, all. I downloaded the .vob that are in freestuff and they will not open. However, Rodluc's castles and Dark Anvil's stuff loads great. What could cause this problem? Could the ShareCGI freebies files be corrupt?

I know from one guy, I think at ShareCG, that offers stuff that he has done with the PLE version. Unfortunately Vue PLE has it's own format that does not load into regular Vue versions. Maybe it is that.

if it's the stuff from Admin2 with a watermark, it won't open in Vue - he did them in the PLE version and they are locked to his version of it

Oh and congrats on XStream - you are going to love it :)

It's all the most recent freestuff Vue scenes. They just won't open. Too bad -they were pretty scenes.

I got Xstream because I have Max 7 and Lightwave 8.5. Now, I need to learn them all!!!!!

FrankT ( ) posted Fri, 07 December 2007 at 7:29 AM

Anything with a watermark on it is not going to open, they are from the PLE version which is locked to the PC it's running on.  Take a look over at Cornucopia3d - they have a fair few freebies

We, that's jumpstartme2 and myself,[and staff in general] are reviewing this situation re: the free stuff, so hang in there drifterlee and just don't dl any vue freebie with the Vue logo in the thumb, as that's a dead give away.

Grads, e-on software release update 6.5, that fixed many problems and one with opening .vob files.
I recomend to get that update.
Models that saved in Vue 6.5 can not be open with 6.0 version. you may expirance that problem.
Enjoy discovering new worlds.

Thanks,, all!!!! There just aren't enough hours in a day to learn everything as fast as i want to!

I just looked in freestuff again, and there are a lot of freebies that do not say Vue 6 in the thumbnail, and yet won't open in my Vue 6. Are they from that free Vue also?

I think it was my models that would not load since I use to have the PLE version of vue. Buit I have gotten the full version of vue now. I have made a few scenes with the full version of vue and they should work for you.  Here is my portfolio on sharecg http://www.sharecg.com/pf/admin2 all the files starting with the airplane over the clouds should work for you. You said you liked some of the models I made but you could not download. If you tell me which models you liked then I can either make them again in the full version of vue or I can export them from my old PLE version to some thing like .3ds. Just tell me which model of mine you liked and I will recreat them for you. Since they are not on this site any more you can still see them at my sharecg portfolio at http://www.sharecg.com/pf/admin2 and then tell me which one's you like ok.

No, its the other person with the nice cabin and other things that would not load. Must be that PLE. I will check. So many nice things, Wish that PLe was compatible.

admin2 ( ) posted Mon, 10 December 2007 at 2:38 PM

I had a cabin one scene. But do you want me to recreat any scenes I have made.
