Subject: Can't upload images to a thread?

FranOnTheEdge ( ) posted Sat, 08 December 2007 at 2:27 PM · edited Wed, 19 February 2025 at 9:12 AM

Hi, I'm having some problems, suddenly I can't upload images to a thread in the bryce forum - help?

This thread: http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showthread.php?thread_id=2721876&page=1
And there have been images in the thread before.

And my image is (since I've already tried reducing and reducing it, till it's almost invisible - even tried the save for web option, still nothing, even though by now the image is at 200 by 154 and 3.72KB - it still won't upload.

I see that FranOnTheEdge was wondering why she,

can't upload images to a thread in the bryce forum

IIRC, images uploaded to a forum message thread must be less than 200K -- I'm
not sure what the pixel limits are.

I don't know if this is a factor ... did you notice that the thread has 3 pages?

The link to the last page would be ...

one of the glitches with their php software is that ya gotta sometimes clear cache to see an uploaded image. otherwise it may just be some server malfunction.

SndCastie ( ) posted Sat, 08 December 2007 at 7:21 PM

fran try clearing your cookies from Renderosity you might have a bad one. If you are still having problems send me the original image and I will see if it uploads for me.

Now I can't find it it should be under C drive documents and settings. I think under local settings and temp internet folder but am not seeing that right now but I have been having so much trouble with my system something isn't right on it and have bad memory problem. I am trying to get a new one. You can clear them also with your browser I run IE 7 and you go into tools, internet options, delete and delete cookies. That should wipe out all your cookies but that means you have to resign in to every place you had a cookie at.

Okay, can't see any renderosity cookies in Documents & setting although I see 23 others, I don't use IE but looked for the cookie manager in SeaMonkey - and deleted all but my password and username from renderosity cookies.
Trying to upload image again...

Failed - again... I've been trying this for 6 hours now and I'm dying on my feet, so I'm giving up now and going to bed.

If anybody thinks of anything in the meantime, do please let me know.

...

Oh, well that worked.

But a re-try of the original image - doesn't.

Bobbystahr has also tried uploading the original image - with no success.  So I'm going to try re-rendering it.

Re-rendered the images, (I had two scenes for the thread) turned off "preview render" in case that was it, reduced the rays per pixel to 4 rather than 6, removed an apostrophe from the file's name, did not "save for web" in case that was it...

and well... I dunno what was "it" but whatever it was... it seems to have gone now 'cos I've been able to upload both new images.

If anyone figures out what the problem actually was I would like to know so that I don't run into it again.

But in the meantime I'd like to thank everyone for helping out, and stemming the rising tide of panic.

yes, apostrophe may be one of several illegal characters for their php software and for any of these browsers.

SndCastie ( ) posted Sun, 09 December 2007 at 4:07 PM

I agree might have been the apostrophe

FranOnTheEdge ( ) posted Sun, 09 December 2007 at 5:52 PM

But then why didn't the little screen shot post - that had no apostrophe.

Maybe the apostrophe one frightened Rendo, and it just shut the gate on me?

Is there a character limit on the names of images uploaded to a thread?

Quote - limit file name to less than 32 characters. avoid using ', space , ", comma, gt, lt, ?, !, `, *, %, $, #, @, + et al.

So if I want to call a file "Dogtown" just because it has g next to a t - it won't upload?

How very odd.

I was amused when I saw that FranOnTheEdge said,

Quote - "limit file name to less than 32 characters. avoid using ', space , ",

comma, gt, lt, ?, !, `, *, %, $, #, @, + et al."

So if I want to call a file "Dogtown" ... it has g next to a t - it won't upload?

Ummmmmmmm, very good observation ...

Actually, I think that when Miss Nancy wrote,

gt, lt,

... Miss Nancy was drawing attention to these two symbols

'Greater Than' = '>'

'Less Than' = '<'

yeah, i would skip any "dogtown" files, too. try something more piquant, more outré, more ...... je ne sais pas

**MGD,
**I'm glad it amused you - but I really didn't know that's what she meant, so I was not intentionally humorous, just very puzzled.

So what does '+ et al' mean? (apart from another way of saying 'etc')  I'm just checking now in case there's something else going on there...

**Miss Nancy,
**Oooh, I dunno, a 'Dogtown' might make for an interesting image.
