Not sure if anyone's interested but I just uploaded a new Bryce tutorial on how to use and make caustics.
The tutorial explains this in relation to my recent image "Rock N Roll Night" and includes creating light rays too.
There is also a companion file to go with the tut, which has the caustic lights in bryce .obp, a rock .obj for use in the project, plus two image patterns to use as caustic patterns for lights - or for anything else actually.
