Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 23 1:20 pm)
Mostly for the processor: For Poser 7 it will be an enormous improvement - for Poser 6, it'll be a nice upgrade but not as drastic (Poser 6 will not make use of more than 1 core).
Video card has zero impact on how fast a render will go, but can improve viewport speed; although the Nvidia 7300 is not a really bad card, the 8600GTS of course is much quicker even for Poser work. Just be aware it will only help you in preview mode, for things like posing characters without so much jerky potion of the mouse as you can have on a slow machine, and other things like rotating the camera should be smoother.
Think about getting Windows XP Pro 64-bit edition; in my experience it runs Poser 6 and 7 very well even though they are 32-bit applications, and you will be prepared for future 64-bit applications like Vue 6, upcoming Poser Pro etc. Note that some other apps may not work with 64-bit OS though e.g. the older version of Paint Shop Pro (check each app that you care about).
i think you might notice a slight speed increase, and you will probally notice a slightly higher quality to your renders due to the newer graphics card, but as for the stability, that really comes down to the software (poser) so i would doubt you would gain any stability.
if you can afford to upgrade then do, as other software you may have will definately benifit from the upgrade, vue works great with a quadcore, and i think photoshop seems smoother to me anyway.
you current setup isn't that old anyway, so i wouldn't expect to see dramatic differences if you upgrade to the setup you are looking at.
^^ going from 2-core AMD to 4-core intel q6600 is a vast improvement in speed, for Poser 7...
also, video card has zero to do with render quality :) all render work is done 100% from software, in all versions of Poser
Agree with what's been said above.
Stability issues in Poser seem to be almost always memory related; sometimes it just disappears or freezes, other times it's more polite. So go for as much RAM as your system will handle or that you can afford.
Regarding Operating System: I've been running a dual boot with XP Pro and Vista 64; up until now I'd have unhesitatingly recommended XP Pro. However, I've recently installed the (beta) SP1 for Vista 64, I've doubled my RAM to 8Gb, and I've cut down all the GUI crap to a minimum.
Result: Poser 7 now runs a whole lot faster on Vista 64 than XP. In fact, Photoshop and all the other stuff I use is faster too.

What are your system specs or at least what motherboard are you running that gets you 8Gb RAM?

Hi Mariny
Seeing you have a Nvidia video card, you may want to check out this link. http://developer.nvidia.com/object/fx_composer_home.html

Is it anyone that can give me answer if this computer will make Poser works faster and more stabile??
I want to buy a new computer, because the computer I have now renders VERY slowly and Poser shut down all the time.. I get crazy with all the problems..
My computer I have now is:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual processor
2 GB RAM
Videocard: GEForce 7300 FS
THE NEW COMPUTER HAVE:
Core Intel® Core™2 Quad Q6600 processor 2.4GHz,
4GB RAM, 2x2GB DDR 667MHz
Videocard: PointOfView GeForce 8600GTS 256MB
Will this computer be better for working with Poser 6 and 7????
