Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 23 7:38 pm)
TBH, I don't usually browse the galleries.
However, if I do, I click on the "What's New" and then look at a few pages of thumbnails. And if the thumbnail strikes me in some way, then I'll click the image. It doesn't even have to be a "great looking thumbnail", just "interesting" to my eye be it colour or content or even the name of an image.
Some of my "favourites" come from the photography gallery. One particular image struck me so much that I actually posted a link to it in the photography forum and sent a message to the artist that they should submit it to a magazine cover. He did and it was a cover image on a photoshop magazine.

Rarely do I go beyond a few pages though.
If I see a link posted here to a gallery image, I will almost always click it and then sometimes take the time to browse the person's gallery a little.
I rarely comment on images. And when I do it's because the image really moved me and I felt a need to let the artist know. I never make "gratuitous" comments. Every comment that I do make comes from deep down.

I have been really impressed with a lot of stuff that I'm seeing in the, one of the main reasons for this thread. For example, I do render in Vue often, but I always post in the Poser Gallery. I see quite a few images rendered in Vue and posted in the Vue gallery, so I felt that I was missing a lot (I read PgG47's tutorials and then I started going to "What's New").
I'm still trying to get used to the "new" renderosity in general (although I think "What's New" has been around for a long while) - there have been a LOT of changes since my day - gosh I feel like an old man now. "Back in my day..." :)
I stick primarily to viewing the photography gallery any more. For the most part, the other galleries are just more of the same thing.. kinda like a soap opera that way. You've seen it this week and can come back in a month and pick it up right where you left off. :-)
Another reason I stick to the photography gallery is because there is so much cross posting in galleries. Like was said about rendering in vue and posting it to the poser gallery. You never really know what an image was rendered in.
Handle every stressful situation like a dog.
If you can't eat it or play with it,
just pee on it and walk away. :-)

I wouldnt have to manage my anger
if people would manage their stupidity......
I have seen work in the Poser gallery which definitely wasn't rendered in Poser. I feel this could mislead some people. I know there is no set rule & alot of the process is done in Poser, I just feel the right gallery would be the one you rendered in. I suppose it could also be mixed medium if I'm going to be picky about it.
That's a pretty tough call but a good point. I would hate to see a vendor product shot rendered in Vue for instance when it's a Poser item. I think that would be misleading. One of the reasons I think I post items in the Poser gallery even when I render in Vue is that I still "feel" (my wife is a psychologist and "feeling" is always in quotes for me :D) that its Poser "artwork" (not sure if you can call what I do artwork - but I do :P).
But with the fact that most of what I do is mixed medium it would make sense to put it there and that kind of leads back to the original question of how do you browse the gallery. Being a needy artist type I like seeing people view my renders and would changing the galley type from poser to mixed medium, for instance, affect that in anyway?
I do feel that I was missing a lot of quality work because I just browsed the poser gallery specifically and I'm glad I started using "What's New" so I don't miss much.
I have been thinking about it, and there is actually a lot of work done out side of Poser, besides the rendering. I usually also do a bit of post work in photoshop as well - be it color correcting/balancing or adding effects and even writing about the characters.
Views are nice I will admit, but to be totally honest, I really like and need the creative outlet. Since I've gotten back into Poser (I've spent a LOT of money) but I've started doing the things I really enjoy again - writing and visualization. And I guess that's what's really important.
... and what pakled said
I never filter my browsing by tool (Poser, Vue, whatever). I dont think it's relevant at all where the image was prepared or rendered. Anyway, nowadays most of the really interesting stuff is made in various tools. If you filter by Poser, for example, you would miss some fantastic creations by Stonemason, for example, or Hobbit, or DOM1 or Petemohr or...
In many of my images, I use Poser, Zbrush, Vue and Photoshop. Where should I post it? In the tool that I spent more time on? In the tool where I rendered? I dont think it really matters. The tool is secondary, IMHO.
So, normally, I click on "what's new" and browse. Occasionally, I filter by genre (mainly to avoid "portraits" and "people" genres because these tend to be EXTREMELY repetive and uninteresting, as Stormchaser mentioned. In most cases, I even seriously doubt it can be classified as art... But that's a different discussion altogether... :-)
I don't often go into the gallery, I have to say.
When I do, I tend to use the What's new, but I don't narrow it down to Poser only.
In a way, I wish there were a kind of Pro Gallery, because.. uh...well. Wading through pages worth of not so brilliant things tends to put me off the gallery altogether.

I use the "What's New" link. One thing I appreciate about Renderosity's latest web page design is that you can avoid the "Most Popular" and "Highest Rated" categories, which have more in common with political polls than art in my opinion.

In the past I usually used to just browse the "poser" gallery entries, but recently I have started to use "What's New" from the gallery menu and I am highly impressed by the entries from the other gallery types. I guess I limited my exposure to the other fantastic artists here on Renderosity.
How do you normally browse the galleries?
