Subject: Making a scene with a surprised cat

mtone ( ) posted Thu, 10 January 2008 at 8:35 AM · edited Thu, 14 November 2024 at 5:47 AM

I'm planning on making a scene with a cat that looks like it woke up from a deep sleep. After it woked up, it had a shocked face and body expression.

Any ideas on how to do this with the Poser cat?

I am not a cat person....but I am very good at scaring the ones from next door out of my yard (but I'll not get going on that particular rant) Generally the next door cats freeze almost in mid stride, sometimes crouch a little lower to the ground, give me a wide eyed look, then dash away to watch me from the other side of the fence.

For your idea, since the cat is just waking up, I'd say maybe start with Cat Pose 01 and work in little adjustments that freeze in that moment like it is getting ready to stand, but still hunkered down, widen the eyes slightly (not much...but a little) and go from there. The mouth is generally closed, and position the ears back and down slightly.

Start with that and just make little adjustments here and there until you're close to the feeling you want for your scardey cat.

Crazy alien chick FTW! (yeah....right....)

Hmm...  I was owned by a cat for a few years ...

I don't think a cat can be surprised by waking.  It will yawn and stretch,
but its attitude is more like "Why aren't you awake yet, you slothful two-legger!?
Where's my damn food???"

Search Youtube.com for "surprised cat" and you'll get some good
examples to work from.

Oh, I should add that I wanted it to be more comical rather than realistic so I'm planning for something like it got hit with a lighting bolt or something. I'll render it in a cartoon mode too.
