Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 22 7:49 pm)
When inside Poser and you click "export" for the image, you will get a "save as" window. Where it says "Save as Type", use the drop down arrow to select the file type (extension) of your choice.
The fact that it's saving with .png at the end, tells me that you have the "Save as Type" set to .png and are typing in the name of the file along with whatever extension you want IE: myimage.tiff
No need to type in an extension. Just type in the name and Poser will assign the appropriate extension automatically, according to what you have it set for.

Thanks, Acadia, but I don't think that that's it. If I keep Poser open, while I check the output in Photoshop, I can go back and save the same picture again. When I do that, TIFF is already selected, because it is the format which I have previously selected for the original saved file, and this new version is correctly stored . The second saved file will be identical in size to the original, too, because they really are both TIFFs. I can correct the first file by changing the extension type.
Poser is storing the right format, but the wrong extension and I don't think that there is anything that I am doing to make that happen, beyond choosing to save a TIFF.
...Incidentally, I never use "Export". I always use the "Tear-off" icon above the render window. The functions should be identical, though.
Try "export". Maybe Tear-Off is different.

When saving a rendered picture from Poser 7, I sometimes find that Poser attaches the default file extension, i.e. .PNG, even when a non-default filetype is chosen. Out of habit, I nearly always save a picture as a TIFF. If then I want to look at the saved file in Photoshop (or whatever), there is no TIFF to be found - only a PNG. Photoshop can display the thumbnail, but can't open the file. The reason is that the saved file has the format of a TIFF, as requested, but the extension of a PNG. If I change the extension to .tif, Photoshop can open the file. I have seen this a number of times, but I haven't found a way to reproduce it to order. Has anyone else seen this?
