My current favorite for viewer and batch operations is [Xnview.](http://pagesperso-orange.fr/pierre.g/xnview/enxnview.html)Free, open source, multi-platform and rock solid as far as I can tell.
One thing I missed the first times I used the batch conversion, there is a Transformation tab at the top of the Batch window - you can use it to apply any number of transformations for batch processing in addition to the format conversion.

I've been using Faststone as my organizer for a couple of years now and can't fault it in any way. I've tried most of the competition including Xnview and ACDsee but Faststone is still my favorite by a mile. Batch editing is very easy to use, just open the folder containing the images you want to work with and hit F3 (or right click and choose batch convert). From there you can select which images to work on and if you click the "Advanced options" button you get to the really good stuff.
I've used Faststone to batch process the resizing, cropping and watermarking of hundreds of images at a time and it does it all with absolutely no fuss. This is a great tool that I couldn't work without and I can't recommend it highly enough.
I havent tried the batch convert yet,but i think irfanview is far easier at first glance,but this one is alot better in terms of what it can do.Full screen go to the edges of the screen to get alot of different menus...totally cool! the sharpen filter is better than Photoshops(;
A wicked cool application for sure(;

But not for the Mac apparently. Too many problems. Hope they get the issues resolved soon, as this looks very promising. Do any of these programs have the ability to display VUE or VOB files? That cold be a huge timesaver for me.
