Subject: !This is how to link to specific thread responses!

Have you ever wanted to link to someone's specific response, tutorial, rant, link, announcement, etc within a thread, but not just to the thread itself. Want to save the headache of sending someone into a 12 page thread looking for one post they are looking for?

This is how you post a link to someone specific reply

You can link directly to lots of things. This is how you link to a specific response. I just posted this in another thread so I will post this here to since I am sure it will be handy to some. You may want to copy/paste this snippet for the future
***http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showthread.php?******thread_id=replace&page=replace#message_replace

This is the base part of all forum links...
http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showthread.php?

Then we have this part after......
thread_id=2714444&page=3#message_3085610

This is the thread you are in.
***thread_id=2714444

This is the page of the thread you are linking to....
&page=3

And this is the message number. When you quote someone you get a message number you can use.....
#message_3085610

Here is an example that takes you to a Pink Pony parody several years back.

http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showthread.php?message_id=1570597&page=1#message_1570597

Once you are in the thread, you see the message id

The page your are looking at is visible.

If you quote someone you get their message id.

You can play with it a bit. For example, you can leave out the page number, I believe, if the response is on page 1 only

I don't get a message number when I quote someone.

The only way I can find out the message number of the post I want to link to is to find an odd key word in the post and use the forum search feature to search for that word by that particular user. When I find the post that has the content that I am looking for, I copy the link from the address bar.

If there is an easier way to find out the message number of a post in the middle of a thread, I'd like to know how. It would save me a huge amount of time because I rely on bookmarking specific posts  for my bookmark threads.

When I quote you the end of the page url link ends with
&quote=3197030

that number 3197030 is your message id

Right click to open a quote in a new window helps.

That seems unduly complicated.

What is the link that I tag on the message id to?

It's not really complicated. Just takes practice.

Content Paradise has links buttons to every reply attached to each reply. Perhaps Bondware will add that.

Cheers.

If you turn on your Status Bar in your Browser, and mouse over the Quote, you will see the Message ID Number at the end of the Link that displays in the Status Bar. You can not Copy it, but they are usually easy to remember.

Instead of the page number it's better to use &ebot_calc_page to allow for other people having set a different number of posts per page.
This is what the search results do and going by the name so do the ebots.
