If they have different materials (dummy) you can select via materials in the material browser (F6) directly. OR, work on those materials directly without the "need" to select the individual parts. If different parts share the same material then the only way is to do it via world browser, as you did before.

Thanks for the input Wabe, the model came untextured, and the world browser object parts had over 100 different parts with obscure names like LEA, making it difficult to find the part I wanted, it would have been so much easier just to click on the wing mirror in the view window for instance and be able to edit the material that way :)

Well, when I think about it IS in principle possible to select items directly in the several windows. I only find it difficult often and therefore do not like that. You can try and draw a little rectangle via mouse over the item you want to select. Sometimes it works.

Hi,
I have imported a .3DS model, I can see all the parts of the model on the right and can select them individually, is there anyway to select part of a model in the view window itself? It would make my texturing a lot easier.
