Subject: Poser python is crashing

PapaBlueMarlin ( ) posted Sun, 23 March 2008 at 9:23 AM · edited Thu, 12 September 2024 at 1:35 PM

In the past, I've been able to use Real Skin Shader and Apollo UCFS without any problems, but recently they have been causing poser to stall and crash.  I've tried updating my python, but nothing has helped.

You haven't changed OS have you?  As I recall Real Skin Shader relies on a certain pythin lib that only works in 32-bit Windows, and can't run on 64-bit Windows (assuming you are not on a mac).

What version of Poser are you using ?
PC or Mac ?
What (if any) error messages are you getting ?
When you say you've tried updating your Python, what exactly have you been trying ?
Any other updates to your computer in the same timeframe as when the problem started occuring ?

I'm on a 64-bit system, but it was working a couple of months ago...

You know what, I think I mixed up this skin shader and Dave Burdick's SkinVue re: 64-bit compatibility.

Here's the screen print of the Apollo Realism Kit error.

The Bagginsbill shaders are crashing poser whenever I try to swap out a loaded texture for another one.  The browse function causes poser just to hang.

The error message indicates that it is trying to use an outdated module to generate random numbers. The script will need to be updated to run in your current version of Poser.

Thanks, nruddock. It's a shame that face_off hasn't seen fit to update the Apollo Realism Kit for Poser 7. P7 has been out a good year now, and this still hasn't been updated. Guess I just won't throw away my money on his products again, knowing that he's not keen on updating his scripts to work with newer versions of the main application.

Luckily, someone else came along and gave us a free alternative.

Making your own edit on the existing script takes less time than it would for you to download a new version of the whole thing.

It is after all only a warning, Python pulls in the correct module.
Only when the deprecated module is removed from a future version of Python and that version of Python is included with Poser would it really need an update.

You could check on face_off's support forums to see what the current status is.

PBM:

Is your setup fixed now? The whrandom thing is a simple change, FWIW.

I'm curious: How do you use both RSS and UCFS? Doesn't RSS replace all the materials, meaning aren't you blowing away UCFS when you run RSS?

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

PBM, that screenshot is just the depreciation warning - it wouldn't be causing crash issues.

Jefsview - all my scripts are fully P7 compatible.  Some of the scripts give a depreciation warning, and it's a 1 min edit to the script to get rid of that.

Bagginsbills:

For Apollo UCFS: I run the parameter dials pose and then one of the UCFS shader poses.  In the past, once the materials are applied, I've been able to swap out a texture by using the browse function.  But recently this has caused poser to completely lock up.

I changed the whrandom for the Apollo Realism Kit and it runs ok now without the depreciation warning.  The realism kit is run through a wacro in the materials room.

Does anyone know why the browse function would lock up?
