Subject: In need of cooked liver

Liver is needed, cooked liver, for a render.  Anyone know where to find some?

pjz99 ( ) posted Mon, 24 March 2008 at 1:27 AM

For the material, pretty sure Bagginsbill has popped out some really convincing gooey bits.  You may want to look around in the RDNA Node Cult sub forum:
http://www.runtimedna.com/mod/forum/messages.php?forum_id=92

Can you show me a pic of what you want exactly what you're looking for shape wise?  I'm about to go get some sleep but in the morning I don't mind shaping a few chunks of chopped liver and mapping them for you in case you want to texture, that will be easy (if no one replies with a good alternative before I get up).

Pan fried liver with onions and bacon.
Generally it's a bit darker than that, but the shape is right.

And for all those who go ewww... I like liver. :) Prepared properly and cooked right it's nice.
(Here's a hint - soak it in milk for a couple hours before you fry it. It's not as bitter then, as the milk draws out the impurities.)
Anyway... Bon Appetite, and I hope you find something you can use, Flibbits.

It's a render of a story about a 12 year old boy eating the liver for an 8 year old girl so she can leave the table.

Flibbits is that pic pretty close to the shape you want?

How's this look? I found a free "steak' here:

Free Steak Props
by AdamThwaites

(Scroll down one page on that site - you'll see the "T-BONE")

Unless you're going to do a super closeup, I think this is good enough. It's a procedural shader and should work with other shapes too.

Note: The steak was HUGE - I had to scale it down big time.

Here's the shader, attached as a text file so Rendo let's me attach it.

When you download it, rename it to Liver.mt5 and save it in your Materials folder.

Click your prop in the material room and apply this material.

There are a lot of nodes in there. Don't worry about them. The only one you really need to pay attention to is at the top - a Simple_Color node. Change that to adjust the overall color of the liver.

For best results, enable ray tracing. And make sure there is stuff around it to reflect in its gooey wetness!

That prop looks great, bagginsbill... and flibbits, that sounds like a really cool story!

I wish there was more food available. Poppy has some and that site that just closed had some but I couldn't buy it since they only sold by disc burn and I would have hit by 100% duty by the wolfs they call "brokers" who intercept stuff at the border fill out a three line import declaration form and then hold your package ransom until you pay out!

My characters will have to keep eating free pizza mainly though they have liver and stake now too I guess :) I better make some mashed potatoes and I think http://lab108.x0.com/lab108/food.html has corn and butter!

pjz99 ( ) posted Mon, 24 March 2008 at 3:55 PM

hope that model's what you want, but if not point me in the right direction (something not terribly ornate please, a picture is ideal) and I'd still not mind modeling something pretty quick.

Momodot what kind of food?  I am pretty busy right now but stuff like fried eggs is pretty easy.

Anything you care to do so long as it is something that would be eaten in the USA.

I have a hamburger from Adam Thwaites, but a good sandwich, a bowel of oatmeal... anything like that would be nice. Esp. with a bite taken out.

I just bought Pappy's Pancakes and I wish I could buy his egg breakfast. The two scenarios I would do are a messy kitchen with food left on the table and an artist's model having a snack like a package of yogurt or something else they might eat on a break.

I found a plate of somewhat okay food on an esoteric Japanese site that I have been using but a nice bowl of porridge or breakfast cereal would be nice.

I used to photograph nude models pretending to read a book or drinking tea from a tea bowl or eating a bowl of yogurt or cereal just to give me an interesting daily-life action and the shapes of the bowl or other prop looked good overlapping the human form or as something on the table/floor in front of them. I used to paint models getting dressed and un-dressed a lot because I liked how the clothes cut the body into shapes and the interesting postures involved but I have failed utterly to make such clothes props with Cloth Room.

I bet I am not the only one who would like a clutter of American Style Chinese take-out for the living room coffee table or dinner in bed for Poser.

...but please don't exert yourself strictly on my behalf... unless you want to try those clothes props :)

Liver isn't square, it actually looks - mostly - like the piece on the left side of the plate in the photo because liver is naturally.... umm.. oblong.
It also tends to be much darker fried up than your material Bagginsbill. :)

More that color. (Actually that looks so nice I think I'll have liver tomorrow lol. With mash, and bacon and onions. Yum.)

That material does look very decent for raw liver (maybe raw kidney).  Sandwich huh?  Give me a couple of days and I will get back to you.

Did your parents make you eat cow tongue? I always prayed not to get the piece with too much taste bud surface.

bagginsbill ( ) posted Mon, 24 March 2008 at 6:41 PM

I didn't know what color to make it. I was going by your first picture.

"Pan fried liver with onions and bacon.
Generally it's a bit darker than that, but the shape is right."

So I sampled the photo and then darkened it a bit. As I said, if you open the material, you'll find it is trivial to change the overall color.

The new picture is heavily fried, showing burn and blister. The first one was much more uniform. I can do this type too, but it will take a few days. I'm about to leave for Tampa, then Vegas, for meetings. I won't be back Posering for a while.

It's nice with some fava beans and a nice chianti :)

Silke ( ) posted Mon, 24 March 2008 at 8:58 PM

Heheh that's how I like my liver - like the second pic :)
If it's like the first one, the texture of it usually puts people off, as does the taste. :)
But yes, as you said, it's relatively easy to fix the material and darkening it a bit.. :)

And yes, I've eaten tongue, too, but I'm not too fond of it. There was very little that didn't end up on the table in some form or another when I was a kid. Things like brain don't scare me, I've had it before. (Didn't much care for the texture, but it tasted okay.)

Thanks for the response.

I'm going to try that liver model and shader provided.  I'll report on the result.

I also have to find some long tables and a window (as in a window into a kitchen.)

Attached Link: Mystic Nights 3D Directory

You might want to look at a Poser World subscription. They have the most everyday type clothing and props.

You know about Mystic Nights 3D's search engine for finding freestuff?
http://mystic-nights.com/directory/index.php

http://www.whatever3d.com/ searches Poser stores but turns up some freestuff.

The best benches and tables I've found aren't free, but god, you get SO much with the set.
Check out Faveral's Medieval Tavern over at Daz. It's absolutely positively one of the best buys I've ever made.

Here are two sample renders with the liver.  I'm not sure it looks much like liver with the texture (material.)

It's just a generic woman with generic lighting.

The first is the image as a drawing (photoshop) and the second raw render.

Silke ( ) posted Fri, 28 March 2008 at 1:42 AM

You need to taper the prop, I think. It's too square-ish for liver, but the texture is okay.
