A freind of mine were just joking on the phone about how time consuming the forums are. Then I wondered....

Let's find out.

Not counting galleries, downloads, uploads, installations, searching, browsing, shopping, etc, try this.

1. Go to every  Poser-type site forum you have an account on that counts posts (PP, Daz, here, CP, etc)

2. Check every clone account too

3. Add up all the posts

4. Multiply by 5

(say 5 minutes for reading, considering thethread, composing a response, posting it and rereading what you wrote. Obviously some threads are quick. Others take a lot longer so it balances out. But let's just say 5 minutes.)

1. Take that number and devide by 60.

(Total number of posts * 5) / 60 = hours spent posting in forums.

How many total hours  have you spent posting to threads on Poser sites? Anyone game?

K here is mine. I think I forgot a few accounts, some sites closed,  and some sites don't count posts but..

total Poser site posts 10184

(10184 *5) / 60 = 848.6 hours spent posting in forums. That's five solid non-stop weeks since 1998.

Works out to 188.6 hours for me for Renderosity alone.

I have an estimated total of 900 posts, mainly here, plus Daz and a few at e-frontier. That brings me to 75 hours spent typing. Almost two work weeks. Much more time was spent reading. of course.

I don't think my calculator is working :lol: I got a ghastly huge number. :laugh:

Last time I checked with all forums I post too (including the non 3d ones) I was over 30k mark in posts (close to 10 years), this does not includes the several I know are no longer which might add another 5k-10k.

718 hours. Approx 30 days.

That's about what my count adds up to... 10K or so... LOL

All I can say, is I am glad I get paid for it... (Sad part is, it is not a big function of my job!)

The vast majority of my posts these days are in non-public forums.  And the posts are work-related.  I probably make ~50+/-  non-public posts for every one post that I make in here.

I still have a fair number of public posts, though.  But it's not a number that I'd care to contemplate in any serious way.......this question is almost as bad as asking someone how much money they'd spent on Poser over the last 5 years.  But on the other hand, I'm chained to the PC for the sake of other work anyway -- and the forums can provide a much-needed diversion.

I wonder how much time gets spent playing video games / watching television?

489 hours = 61 days of full-time work.

Perhaps these numbers would be interesting to advertisers.....

p.s. I spend far less than 5 min. per thread, not actually reading most of it.

You need to consider all the threads you read, but do not post, so the five minutes may not be enough, even for those with lower post counts. I know I read ten times the number of threads I post in! (in reality closer to 1 posting in 100 threads I read.)

15,840, including this one. Around 55 days (as long as the defense of the Embassies in China in 1901..;) And I had more fun...;)
But then I post in other forums....so sue me...;)

It wouldn't be very accurate for me. I spend extra time searching for things for people and sometimes my posts take me more than 5 minutes to make because I gather links and information from other posts, which also requires searching.

But I can tell you one thing.... my post count in real time equals lots and lots and lots of hours!  LOL

I'm the silent one in the corner. Only 15 hours. Now if I could add up the time spent reading all the threads....Then I'd probably be more in line with everyone else

it would amount to 15 minutes per topic!

well..first I need to post to find out how many post I have.
OK..just DAZ and here : 605.5 hours...
And I actually spend more time on blogs...plus several other sites, and emails up the wazoo...no wonder my gut and butt are getting bigger.
