Subject: Poser freezes when I try to use V4

faeriemajikk ( ) posted Sun, 30 March 2008 at 6:11 PM · edited Sun, 02 February 2025 at 12:57 AM

Ok i recently got poser 6 and i can use the figures that came with poser, i have added V4 as I have a lot of content for her that i was using in D|S but when i add her poser freezes and then i get...Poser Not Responding.
What are the causes?
Is it a Memory issue
A graphics card issue
or
Have i somehow not installed V4 in poser correctly?
I have never had a problem with D|S and Rendering also Bryce 6 runs well.
How do i find out if my graphics card is good enough (i know nothing about hardware)
Also I do have memory issues, how much free memory do i need for it to run smoothly lol I think i have about 1.66gb free at the moment.
I have a laptop so...i have heard that if it is the graphics card it can't be upgraded...only pcs can is this true?
Help me please!!!

Do you have SR3 for Poser 6?  If not, you should install that before trying anything else.

The graphics card won't be an issue.  Poser uses it for preview only.  Could be memory.  How much RAM do you have?

If you installed V4 into your D|S runtime, and are trying to load it from there, that could be it. maybe, maybe not. You didn't say if it was plain old V4 or V 4.1 or V 4.2.  I had that problem with V 4.1 and apparently you have to install it into the Poser program directory. Why, I don't know, but if you haven't done that, give it a shot.
1.66 GB RAM should be enough as long as you don't overdo it on scenes, although it is kinda pushing it.

V4 prefers the FIRST runtime so Poser is certain to dind the stuff in the runtime/libraries!DAZ folder

I have 512 meg ram so memory isnt really a big issue even with Poser 7. Just make sure if you have little memory that you change the virtual memory limit higher.

What's SR3 ?
I have V4.2
I created an external runtime for poser from a tute on Daz site. Everything comes up in poser.
ummm as far as memory is concerned it says on my laptop:
60GB PATA HDD
512MB DDR2
Is that what you mean?
I have about 24GB on my D:/ Which i guess if i either merge the 2 partitions or move some free space from d to c i would have enough mem.
I hope added info helps you to help me lol

Wow if you only have 512 MB of DDR2 RAM on your laptop, you're losing alot of that to Windows, and I imagine you have shared memory for your video card, if it's integrated into the motherboard. So, your OS is using part of that 512 MB, maybe even half of it (I can't remember what Windoze needs), and your video card is using probably most of the rest, not to mention any background apps which might be running.
That's only if you have integrated graphics, which you probably do.
If you can run D|S you should be able to run Poser, but to get any kind of performance you're going to need to get more RAM.

Service release 3. Available at the Poser website.  Can't remember the URL offhand (it's changed so much recently) but you should have it to hand somewhere with your copy of Poser.

512MB is about the bare bones for Poser 6.  You should be able to load V4 with that.

I managed to download and install SR3 and still not working...so what you all are saying is that it's probably my lack of RAM so i have 512mb and should upgrade it to....what?
So my graphics card should be ok yes?
Is this why i can't use V4 because of my RAM?

Upgrade to at least a gig.
