for posts on these forums images have ot be less than 250k in size, iirc.
For the galleries its 500k :)

yeah... tell THAT to both the galleries and forums LOL.... if i try to upload anything larger than 490K to the galleries, it has a fit... this one i had to shrink to less than 600 wide and then drop it below 250 (i had it 800x600 and under 250 and it still screamed LOL)
dratted limits. how can we show off our pretties in all their glory when they're TINY???? (or worse, have to reduce quality so much you might as well give up hope)
i just made a plane with a bunch of those dystopia city blocks on it - its great fun =D

Someone is a "VUE ADDICT," already!
Sometimes I can't get the upload to go over 490k either, and when I look the Gallery says it wants to post as 509k. Perhaps it is a conversion or processing of some kind that is added to the image.
Sometimes things are measured with K=1024 (nice for computer software because it's an even power of two) and sometimes they are measured with K=1000 (nice for humans because it's an even power of ten.) So 500,000 "human" K is only 488.28 "computer" K. So probably your image software uses the "computer" K and the forum admins, being human (at least most of them :-) ) use human K.
I'm guessing that 488K is the limit for the Gallery and 244K for the forums.
And oh yes, look who discovered ecosystems! They are very addictive, but it looks as though you've already found that out!
I am about to try an ecosystem of Dystopia Basilisk heavy transports. I can load 1 of 'em into Vue before it curls up and freaks out but I managed 50 or 60 in an ecosystem :)
(the Basilisk is a Humungous transport ship. Huge doesn't do justice to the size of this thing.)
Nice ecosystem too Meli - glad you are having fun with Vue :)

chuckles shortly after i played with the dystopia blocks, hubby forced me to go sleep - said it was either go willingly, or he brings out the rubber mallet - i went without (too much) protest. 14 hours later... i finally wake up.
vue addict - yep! from day 1 =D
and the human versus computer definitions of a K makes a LOT of sense. i know this computer goes by the computer definition, not what I think is a K (which is the human definition LOL)
thinking on it, i havent managed to get anything above 488K in the galleries. thumbnails are a pain, too...
and yep, ecosystems are extremely addictive (but then again, the whole danged program is LOL)
i wanna see that, Frank.... a whole ecosystem of heavy transports....
wow.
i still havent quite figured out how to get things where i want them (cant wait for infinite now, where i can PAINT the ecosystems - i heard that's waaaaaaay easier) i've been playing with the function editor, and slowly getting some kind of idea how that works (hopefully its the RIGHT idea LOL)
anyways, off to play =D
have coffee, will vue. =D also have an idea for an image for an aquaintance of mine... i cant get it out of my head, so am going to have to go start looking for the componants i still need, too....
but first...
VUE
VUE YOU TOO! giggles (btw, its not normal coffee... its from the "local" convenience store - a Mocha Alert Cappiccino with a shot of york's peppermint patty cappiccino in it LOL) - more zing per ounce!

wow.... traffic jam =D
was gonna ask how you managed to get the blocks to line up like a city instead of randomly plopping all over the place, then answered my own question and am about to test that theory LOL.
i've been downloading a lotta stuff and just playing in vue - right now, have a crate with a buncha springs, nails, and gears laying on top.... been working on orientation, density, and scaling.... looks like **** but oh well, its learning. knowledge isnt always pretty..... but maybe if i lowered the nails so they appear nailed into the crate....
hmmm
btw - that looks pretty cool, mycat =D

You'll probably be disappointed. The city blocks are a single 6x6 block unit imported from Poser (DAZ has the block sets 01 to 10 and 11 to 20 for free., they include 1x1 up to 6x6 squares that can have the block types randomly set with a Python script) and scaled to actual size. Each block is supposed to be 400m on a side, so I scaled the 6x6 block to 1.2km on a side. I then duplicated two more copies and manually placed them behind the first for background.
When I tried putting the blocks into an ecosystem nothing populated :-(
The Basilisk is in an ecosystem on a plane with a transparent non-reflective material. I then duplicated the plane, moved it slightly below the first, and repeatedly cleared and repopulated the planes until they looked reasonable.
FrankT isn't kidding when he says the Basilisk is huge. The interior is two stories! After importing from Poser it's 82m long, 215K polygons. Has a crew of five. The pilot's display screens in the cockpit have a picture of one of the authors :-)
oooo.... try shrinking the scale of the city blocks - it worked for me =D had to take individual scale down to .01 to do it, reduced density a LOT, and reduced umm... cant think of the word, but its in the same spot where the individual object/plant/whatever you insert into the ecosystem is...- and then it looked like a kid dropped a buncha skyscrapers onto the scenery - it was all jumbled and mishmashed and made no sense.
holy smokes, that IS huge...

the city blocks will probably come into Vue quite large. When you are using spectral atmospheres, you really have to work in "real world" units as much as possible so you get the proper atmospheric effects and stuff. I normally use a BIG plane when I'm using dystopia blocks. The ones from Cornucopia come with an ecosystem as part of the set (I think I probably have all but one of the sets now - I love 'em  ) but you need a damn huge plane for it to populate at a reasonable density, also - you gotta watch the offset from the surface. Some are a little too high and need to be tweaked down so they appear flat on the ground.

they are pretty cool, even if scifi isnt exactly my thing - well, the skyscrapers & modern trappings aren't... aliens are pretty nifty, though =D
and i noticed some dont plop themselves down like they should - quite annoying lil buggers at times =D one even managed to twist itself to a 45 deg angle on me - quite frustrating. i finally gave up for a bit on using the blocks as an ecosystem...
and am gonna head to bed here soon, my render is almost finished and ive been waiting to see it LOL. im awaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyy too addicted

One of the tabs has a rotation setting - in infinite, it's set to 120 deg - just reset it to 0 and they won't be rotated at all :)

yep, found that later fiddling with another setup....
and no, havent slept yet - crawled into bed just in time for hubby to wake up, look at the clock, and start a roaring argument. sighs
he just left for work and wont be home for another 7 or so hours, and then i'll still have to wait for him to decide he's tired enough to sleep before i can crawl into bed, so am thinking its gonna be another 9 or so hours before i get to sleep - so bear with me, folks, please.
think i may just stare at the tv... at least that way, i can be sure my sleep-deprived brain wont get me in trouble - worse... sleep-deprived brain on sleeping pills shrugs se la vie... or would that be se la vue?

one terrain, one plane turned into water, and only one actual dragonfly (the one up front) - my ground still looks crappy, and i cant figure out how to vary the height of the dragonflies, but hubby thought it was cute =D
oh yeah, and i played with the front dragonfly's materials a little(but not a lot LOL)
hmmm.... wonder what else i can make into an ecosystem.....
editand it was too big, drat.... gimme a few, will fix it
edited again: saved picture for web, maybe now it'll work.... no postwork other than to save for web
twenty-millionth edit - how small does this dange dthing gotta be? yeesh.
