Subject: need advice re: hair work flow

Hi - I am having lots of trouble with  dynamic hair for V4 so I thought I'd re-evaluate the entire process.

  1. Which is generally the first choice t use: dynamic hair or prop hair?  I had trouble positioning prop hair so I decided to give dynamic hair a try - but so far I am not getting good results with dynamic hair either.

  2. When I grow hair directly on the V4 head it comes out too thin so I created a skullcap and subdivided it in Shade.  The problem I have now is that the group editor tool can't select some skullcap polygons, or else when I draw the square box to add it selects polygons outside the selection box.   Are the polygons messed up because they were subdivided?

I would really appreciate general practical advice on hair and also specific thoughts as to why the group editor tool has trouble selecting the polygons.

Thanks, JV Gallagher

The vast majority of Poser users use prop hair, I think it's safe to say. It usually looks better and is easier to use (hopefully that will provoke someone to contradict me, which should go some way to answering your question!) That said, I haven't tried the hair room myself yet, so mine is a one-sided viewpoint. As for your problems positioning hair, IF the hair is made for the figure you're using it with, it should load in the correct place automatically. If you want further help with that, let us know what hair you're using and maybe post a screen shot so we can see where it ended up.

I'm not sure if this is the cause of your problem, but it can't hurt to try:-)

Sometimes, if your camera is too close to the object you are trying to select polys/verts on, it just doesn't seem to work. (This happens in the group editor in general, not just the hair room).

The reason can often be because the "hither" value of the cam is too big. Anything closer than that value gets ignored.

Two (obvious) solutions:
 - Move the camera further away, or
-  Reduce the hither value...

Cheers,
Diolma
