Subject: Thinking of upgrading to Vue Infinite 6...

LindaB ( ) posted Tue, 29 April 2008 at 12:16 PM · edited Fri, 22 November 2024 at 6:15 AM

I have Vue Infinite 5 right now. I haven't used it as much as I expected to, mainly because of Poser import memory problems with my wimpy old machine. Now I have a more powerful system with XP64, quad core, 4 GB RAM, but V5 still chokes on complex scenes.

Is it worth the $299 to upgrade to V6? I heard that it's memory handling has improved. Should I wait for a sale, or does the price stay pretty consistent? I would love to be able to do more complex scenes in Vue. Any advice much appreciated...
TIA

I personally think it's worth the upgrade just for the speed increase and stability.   I've used six poser models/clothes with full res mesh and textures and a building scene with a system just likes yours and Vue 6, with no problems.

Do you know if it ever goes on sale, or is $299 the cheapest it's going to get? Is it worth paying extra for the box version to get the manual? What are the best training resources?

www.GeekatPlay.com - tons of free tutorials and cool stuff to buy too.

http://www.lvsonline.com - I teach two Vue classes (registration is open now for the next session)

http://www.asilefx.com/index.php - Asilefx has some good training DVDs.  A bit pricey, but useful.

Save money - get the download and buy Vue 6 Revealed for under $20.  Is a good book on what's new in Vue 6.

I found I never used Vue 5i either - but finally decided to upgrade to 6 just recently, hoping to justify my investment in 5, and I'm very happy I did. Even on my aging system it runs reasonably well, I've had very few crashes.

That said - I've also been thinking about upgrading my system for some time, and decided to go ahead and do it. I'm putting together a quad core intel, 8 gb ram with Vista 64-bit. Rendering should be a lot more fun.

I'm not sure if eon offers sales occasionally...

Good luck with your decision

V6I currtently, seems very stable, and I like a lot of the additonal features Infinite has vs Pro :)

I also had 5 Infifnite and never liked it one bit, just couldn't get to grips with it for some reason.
Anyway I still upgraded to 6 Infinite and I'm really glad I did, it's brilliant except for the odd crash here and there [LOL], Seriously, it kills 5 Infifnite dead IMVHO!!
I only use Vue6Inf for rendering now, it's overtaken Poser 6/7 as my app of choice!!!
Would I make a good salesman????

Great news!  Make sure to check for any updates.  I'm not sure even with the download version if you have the latest updates.  There are some beta patches out too.  But I do admit, I rolled back the last update.  No crashes, but the interface was getting very slow.  It could have been I was working on 2 huge scenes (one had over 100 of Noggins rats, several million polygons!), but since I rolled back to 292547, things are running much speedier.
