Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 28 11:20 am)
I bought PP today, and get error that i'm out of memory... Get error when rendering a thumb in 91x91 pixel... And if i click a pose, get the same error...
HATE THIS!!
I have 4 GB RAM and quad prosessor, so my PC shall handle this.. Well..seems the problems just goes from one poser to another:-( I have struggled with Poser 7 from day one, and now PP:-(
Damn shame... I too have Vista64 Ultimate.. Quad Core Extreme2 Intel processor.. 4GB RAM and an Nvidia GTX graphics card... I just wish all this hardware would render using PP as good as P7... oh well... my credit card loves me... I think. Sorry to hear your probs Mariny... I guess we are the pioneers with this new software.. they will remember us in the history books of Poser.
I have Poser Pro -- downloaded and installed. The install was smooth and easy. I've opened it once & done nothing of significance. I'm now in the process of copying my runtimes over -- including bringing in content from P7, etc.. However, I won't be able to tell you whether I "hate" it or not for probably at least a week. With my limited time, it'll probably take that long to investigate various aspects of the application.
Things didn't look too bad when I opened it up, though. At first glance -- pretty familiar territory. Some might consider that to be a negative.....I don't necessarily.
But it'll be awhile before I'll feel that I've used the application enough to form an educated opinion about it. Now if it had crashed right out of the box.....then it might be a different story. But so far that hasn't happened.
G'day Deane!!
i read something over at pixar a while ago (link from someone here) , about rendering the cars movie, that was on about using a reyes renderer and a ray-tracing based renderer (renderman probally) , now they were saying that the reyes renderer was quick and quite good a reflection maps and they had used that most the time before the cars movie, but for the cars movie they found that the reyes renderer couldn't get the eyes to reflect on the bonnets and stuff like that which you get with a ray-tracing renderer, so in the end they made / adapted their renderer to do both.
anyway i'm a bit of a scan reader so have probally missed an important bit out somewhere, but i scan read yesterday that PP was using a reyes renderer, so maybe some of that gibber jabber above makes sense to ya!!
anyway hope it gets sorted soon mate!!
well at least it aint like Hexagon 2.5 that doesnt work and to add insult to injury when you uninstall it and install the older 2.2 version that wont work either because somehow it has inherited 2.5's problems.....
Still not sure though weather PP would be a benifit?????
Getting old and still making "art" without soiling myself, now that's success.
I'm now in the process of copying my runtimes over -- including bringing in content from P7, etc..
I just kept my poser 7 install and added that as an external runtime to the PP runtime library, that works without problems, and saves a lot of money.
hey mate... someones gotta find the problems..
I agree on this, as long as it don't delete my runtime like poser 7 did, I have no problems being a guineapig.

Appreciated BIG X BIG really if anyone's using it and having OS XP Pro 64 bits? Nvidia 8800GTS in SLI mode?Q6600? 8 GB Ram?
Give me the results as for example using the Benchmark reported here:
http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showthread.php?thread_id=2732765
or we can make a new bench mark..you guys that have the new BABY in the arms could start it:
thanks

Did you do a background render? or a "normal" render?

Indeed. According to the manual,
If your computer has a 64-Bit Operating System, Poser Pro will use its 64-Bit FireFly Render Engine to access as much memory as possible. To utilize the 64-Bit FireFly Render Engine, you must select Render in Background.
I'ld also try my luck with the "Render as an independent process" thingy in the render options tab in preferences.

Just tried it... with a pre-saved scene from poser 7... didn't seem to render any faster... just 4 passes in the background and an independant process... but the shadows and light intensity are completely different to the Poser 7 render. And manual??? is there a manual with the download version of PP?... I really must learn to read instructions.
I'm setting up a triple boot system (XP32/XP64/Vista64) on a Q6600/8 GB RAM /nVidia 7900GS /Intel P35 system right now, so I can test speed and stability of Poser 5,6,7 and Pro under three different OSes. It'll take some time before I've finished (the XP32 and XP64 partitions are about ready, still got to install Vista).
Poser Pro opens and runs, just did a couple of simple things.
Since I'm a sucker for really big complicated scenes (and have a tendency to run out of memory when rendering), I'm excited about the full 64 bit renderer - can't wait to feed it some ginormous scene!

Actually... a long winded operation... and to get similar results as Poser 7, I had to follow the instructions in this link.. http://www.poserpro.net/New_Index_9000.html But it's a shame that all this Photoshop stuff is not handle by poser and adjustable to the final render in Poser. It seems you need Photoshop and poserPro to duplicate Poser7 render intensities. They should bundle them together as a pack.

LDR=Low Dynamic Range=jpg, png, bmp, tif (8 bit per channel), psd (8 bit per channel) etc etc.
Meaning, the normal formats.
HDR=High Dynamic Range=hdr,exr,tif(16 bit and floating point channels), psd (ditto) etc etc.
To get the HDR export, you must do a background render.

Mine installed fine, runs fine...not sure who was the 'quality' checker on the new characters...or if this is an inside joke or not, but not impressed with them at all...definatly a huge blow to Poser with those new characters...
Linked my poser 7/downloads, Poser 6?downloads, and apollo runtimes with no problems.
Now to get a 64bit machine LOL...think I will wait for the windows2010 version though :)

I don't think the new figures are "G3" figures, but lowpoly base characters to morph and paint and stuff.

wait so only renders done in the background use the 64 bit engine? im testing now and i guess that is so you can continue to work with the preview in the foreground? i could get used to that.
definitely turn gamma OFF. what a retarded option to include... all it does is wash out your textures.
i do notice it is SLIGHTLY faster.... not nearly as much of an increase as i'd hoped :( maybe 10%.
im running on a quad core extreme intel chip, QX6850 with 8GB of RAM and windows XP x64.
i think the advantage comes in that you can keep working with your scene in the foreground while rendering in the background... but unless you are making multiple frames of the same scene this isn't an advantage- i happen to be doing a lot more animation now so this will help me, but i still wish "built on a 64-Bit render engine for incredible speed and quality!" actually translated to performance.
oh and they did not completely stamp out the GL bug, if im not in Sreed initially when i load the program, next time i click NEW document or load up a Cr2 i'll crash...
Right now, I'm running a background render (Vista64, 8 GB RAM) of a scene that wouldn't render in Poser 7, no matter what I tried. FFRender64 is still happily chugging away at 98% CPU usage and 3.9 GB of memory usage.
So maybe speed hasn't increased (in fact, I ran some tests that seem to indicate that speed has DECREASED compared to Poser 7, when rendering with 4 threads in-process), but if Poser indeed can render those larger scenes, I'm a happy camper.
Of course, I have that reputation for insanely complicated scenes....

Quote - Has anyone tried the export to Maya or any of the other programs? That would be the only reason I would buy it and wondering if it works.
Why spend money on doing that, when you can do it this way:
Poser7=>DazStudio=>Max or Maya via collada import export.
Collada and D|S are free.
I've done Poser7=>DazStudio=>Max a few dozen times. Not about to sopend $200 bucks to have Poser hosted scene, so that whenever I want to edit the character, I have to switch back to Poser. (I gather all they've done is purchase body studio and made it part of Poser Pro)

did that scene render in vue by any chance?
and have you tried carrera renderer?
i've been playing with carrera 5 pro recently and that brings in your poser lights and will use the four cores during rendering (shows you each cores progress) it just feels like that is how the poser renderer should have been, i'm very impressed with it so far, so think i will definately upgrade to carrera 6 pro soon, it's even happy to bring in some zbrush 3.1 stuff too!! just won't let me export as a .png though.
vince3: the scene rendered in Vue 6 Infinite 64. Had to break it up in several parts, import them separately and reassemble in Vue, but it rendered.
I've tried Carrara 5 Pro, but since it wouldn't allow me to do precise placements, I switched back to Vue. The latest Vue updates allow me to import dynamic hair, so there's no need for Carrara anymore.

well it was anyway!! slow on the submit button, cups of coffee are taking longer to boil these days.

do you mean you had to convert them to .vob format and then reasemble?
i've got a vue 5 inf scene from my old rig, that still won't let me add any figures to it on the new rig, so am wondering if vue 6 inf 64 will, might have to try converting it bit by bit first to see if that works.
why does everyone want a bit of me money recently!! at least carrera 5 pro was free, so thanks 3D world for pimpin' my ride!!
haven't encountered that in carrera yet, will have to check it out, i've just been using it as a renderer at the mo', and playing with its mats and lights a bit
Got it and installed it with no glitches. Can't do any of the 64 bit tricks as I'm in the process of getting the needed parts for a quad core upgrade, so I can only talk about the 32 bit stuff. P7Pro starts a hell of a lot faster than P7 ever does....and this is linked to my 40+ gig runtime through Pbooost II (and there seems to be no issue with between Pbooost and P7Pro) Load times are faster, as well. So they definitely have done some optimization there. Now on to testing some dynamics and see how they do......
no problemo stormy ol' buddy ol' pal,
i've managed to bags you a seat on one of the wings (free interesting hairstyle is included), ......unfortunately that wing is set to fall off somewhere over the ocean, but according to one of the noodie flight stewardesses, if there is a tsunami at the time, you should be able to surf that bad boy all the way to the coast and beyond.

Now that I got your attention... someone that's got PP tell me why Firefly renders are different. I mean the same image from Poser 7 is brighter, clearer and much, much better to work with... all this Gamma and HDRI switching stuff, doesn't make much of a difference either. And it's a bummer that only the render engine is 64bit... the Poser scene builder and rooms is still 32bit. One good thing though... they fixed the OpenGL crash problem with my Nvidia card.... but the renders suck!
