Subject: gloss on obj import affects texture OH NO!

I am experimenting with texturing. I made this hair model and tried the texture... when I noticed that the hair is so shiny like the original obj when I first imported the model. What can I do to remove the glossiness? What should I change in the material room?

Help!      :'{

Try setting the "Specular_Value" to to a lower number or zero.

Or using Black or Grey for "Specular_Color" works usualy as well.

You mean making a UV map or aplying textures?

For texturing I just use a graphic program like PhotoShop or the Gimp etc.

I created a UV map of the same hair above and the sides look like v4 just did a brain surgery. It appears I have to deform something on the model to make it look right.

I am thinking of getting a more advanced texture software maybe deep paint 3d but I am a try-before-buy-guy and I find it difficult to find video tuts about it.

Life is cruel. X_X

You can try to make the seems in a diferent place where they are not that visible.

Don't get deep paint 3D. That software hasn't been updated in years and is no longer supported by the company. It may not even run on modern CPU/GPUs. The only 3d painter worth getting is either Bodypaint or ZBrush. Bodypaint is more expensive but has a lot of features. ZBrush is not as great at texturing but can be used to sculpt and model as well. And you can get very good results in good old photoshop as long as your UVs are nicely laid out.

Also you can try using something like roadkill for the hair UVs:

Roadkill

And a tute for using it with Poser:

Roadkill with Poser

most modelers that have UVMapping capability (Wings 3d, Blender, and others), will let you set the Specular value on the model down, so that imports right the first time...if you want to try that route...;)

You can also try 3d-coat for 3d painting.

Hmmm.... the road kill tut looks promising. Is it easier to do it this way than to learn an entirely new software that will paint the texture directly on the model?

Does anyone have a texture guide specifically, a checkered box with different colors and with different numbers? I hope you could share if you have one.

Here you go.

You want to have a uvunwrapper. The problem with the automatic unwrappers is, they're computer-editable-friendly. Not human friendly. Just check any uvmap done with zbrush, for example, they look like a bizarre crossword puzzle.

heee heee heeeh

I think I am beginning to get it now. That Road kill tut taught me well. With this kind of mapping I  was able to fix the sides.
