Subject: Textures in Props folder?

moushie ( ) posted Sun, 29 June 2008 at 12:06 PM · edited Thu, 09 January 2025 at 2:39 PM

I keep my textures in subfolders within TEXTURES, which I think is the conventional approach. But as I often have trouble finding textures for props, would there be any downside to putting the textures in the appropriate PROPS subfolders right alongside their relevant props?

Why not?! ... Sounds like a good idea to me. 😄
As long as Poser knows the correct  "path", (where to find it)  to the  texture, there should be no problem that I can think of.

You should not have any problem having ALL your textures in the Textures folder. If you have so, the textures paths in the props files may be wrong.
The only way to have textures in the Props folder, would be to have absolute paths, which is not the correct way.

You can put anything you want anywhere you want as long as you use aboslute references to them but don't distribute files this way. It's annoying when people distribute things that don't follow Poser's tried and true runtime structure. We saw this when E frontier decided to put Geometries in the same folders as the CR2's.

OMG!  That drives me absolutely buggy!  Thank God for the Windows search function!

Another thing that throws me is that I have purchased a few clothing texture packages and the MAT files to apply the textures were in the Camera folder! I guess that is from the dark ages when you could only have so many things in the Pose folder.  Once I found out that I could rename the .cm2 file to .pz2, I did that and put them where I know to look.... Pose folder :)

That's a VERY valid point.

When one deviates from a "standard" then there is NO standard.  If one "never" plans to share (sell) anything that one creates then it doesn't matter.  The individual is the only one who will know when something does not work and s/he is the one who will need to "fix" it.

😄 Gosh, putting the geometry files in the Geometry folder ... what a concept! 😄

I guess the consensus is, OK to put textures in the appropriate PROPS subfolder if you know what you've done and don't share the files with people. Thanks to all.

The other one was the decision to move conforming clothing to the props folder I've been caught out looking in the figures section for G2 clothing before

"" The other one was the decision to move conforming clothing to the props folder I've been caught out looking in the figures section for G2 clothing before"" Now, that is a new one on me. Dynamic clothing in the props, yeah, but conforming? That would totally confuse me.

I must remember to remember what it was I had to remember.

Hey! Those are MY Attagurls thank you very much! :tt2: Well it was my idea you were quoting wasn't it?

Oh yeah, E Frontier. The company that took all the standards and tossed em' in the trash bin! I forgot about Conforming clothing being moved to props! As for all those MAT poses, I prefer converting all mine to MC6 collection poses and putting them in the material library where they belong! I wish someone would come up with a python script that would do this "Enmass"!
