Subject: Anyone heard of CONTEMPORARY MASTERS?

odie ( ) posted Sat, 12 July 2008 at 8:36 AM · edited Sun, 28 July 2024 at 8:44 AM

Hi all, I received an email that I would like to share. I have googled the information and it seems to be a scam but I would like more feedback on it. The email was entitled MASTERS 2009. There are several links included that invite one to become part of a book of artists. Of course there is a fee to participate. It comes from a person named Despina Tunberg, who is the Curator of an art gallery. She comes up in google, too. http://www.internationalcontemporarymasters.com/ http://www.internationalcontemporarymasters.com/includeyourartintheannualartcatalogue.htm Has anyone else seen this email or heard of this person? Here is some of the email I received and I will copy and paste below. Thanks for your feedback! Jodie ************************************************************************************************* We invite professional artists to submit images of their artwork for selection to be published in International Contemporary Masters 2009, an international art book edited and published by Omma Center of Contemporary Art http://www.omma.us/ Apply by sending at least 5 JPG images by email or your website address. Our art committee will review your submission. If the artist is selected, will be notified within 3 working days. After the artist has been accepted, a participation fee is required PARTICIPATION FEE The participation fee is in euros because the book is printed in Europe. Yes, though I have not heard of this particular scam there have been other similar types of this reported here in the past.  If as they say something sounds too good to be true it probably is

If it truely were a "Contemporary Masters" project there would be someone researching modern togs to get the cream of the crop and then paying them for the right to print their photo in their book. So if you are paying a "fee"...

Which is exactly why I have never responded to one of these. I hope more people can be made aware of this sort of thing. On her behalf, her gallery is awesome but I did read that she has gone under a few times. Maybe this is how she is financing the galleries now! Just once it would be nice to know someone who "bit the bait" and could afford to try this and be successful through this sort of publication. Dream on - I guess. Buyer beware, once again. Thanks guys for your response. Always nice to have feedback from the pros. Jodie
