Subject: Probably a stupid question...

thundering1 ( ) posted Thu, 24 July 2008 at 4:30 PM · edited Fri, 08 November 2024 at 2:42 AM

I've got an image I want to submit to the Vue Environment Contest but it's too big.

When they declare "no post work of any kind" does that include resizing it for their submission guidlines?

I MIGHT be able to save it as a jpeg with a compression that gets below 500kb, but I'd rather not...

Any ideas?

Psst...
Just between you and me, and I'll whisper now. Nobody can tell if you change the size of your picture, not even E-on! So go ahead and scale it all the way down to a mighty 500 kB. ;-)

Cheers!

I know no one would actually be able to TELL just by looking at it, but it will look different if you started at a higher res and scaled down vs rendering at the finished size.

There are little details that wouldn't be the same - and they'll ask for the scene file.

On another note - only SLIGHTLY different - my favorite version of this image I applied a "postwork" to - when V6I finishes rendering, up comes the dialog box to adjust saturation, contrast, gamma, etc. I did a little playing in that.

I'm working on another version, trying to get it to match my favorite version, but straight out of the render.

I'm just wondering if they mean nothing done to it to ALTER after you hit "Save" in Vue.
Thanks-
-Lew ;-)

I do not hink rescaling is regarded as post work. Post work is more like changing colors and adjusting for render errors. So to conform to their ridiculous 500 kB it will be fine to rescale or compress to jpg.

Cheers!

Thundering1 -
i could be wrong, but i thought the "post-render" options were saved with the scene files? i dont usually mess with them terribly much, but would be worthwhile to test - cus if it does, then no worries about your supposed post-work - i think the definition of "postwork" for them is:  was it done in Vue, then its ok.  if its done outside of vue, then its not. --- but again, i could be wrong =D

Thanks folks!
Actually, I got the answer from one of the other posts on the Cornucopia site - using the dialog box after the render is okay as it was "done in Vue" and there seemed to be no problem with resizing.

And yeah, I know in general it's not a "stupid" question - I just felt kinda silly asking it.
