Subject: WOW! Didja see the prizes that daz tossed into Bluesdragon's Frazetta contest?

Gareee ( ) posted Fri, 08 August 2008 at 5:11 PM · edited Thu, 13 February 2025 at 11:26 PM

First place has almost $2000 forth of goodies, not even counting all the prizes donated by the Daz PAs!

And if you weren't aware, Frank Frazetta Jr. Is the guest judge![

LOL outside of the Frazetta print, I have everything else.

Gareee ( ) posted Fri, 08 August 2008 at 7:46 PM

So an $1100 print is something to stick up your nose at?

Tashar59 ( ) posted Fri, 08 August 2008 at 10:29 PM

I never said that did I.

I said for me it's only the print that has any worth. I have everything else. Why does that bother you.

Gareee ( ) posted Sat, 09 August 2008 at 6:57 AM

Well, you laughed at the offered prizes.. did you even look in addition, at ALL the prizes ALSO given by the PAs as well?

Plus there are also andom surprise prizes as well.. yestrday somoen got the new werewolf, my morph set, and the clothing set, a $40 on intro sale value, or a $50 off sale value, depending on how you look at it.

And as a huge Frazetta fan, having Frank Jr. actuall look over the entries and chose the winners is pretty dang cool.

Way too many people take way too many things way too seriously.

"Well, you laughed at the offered prizes.. did you even look in addition, at ALL the prizes ALSO given by the PAs as well?"

I was not laughing the prizes, I was laughing at me having everything Daz is offering except the print.

"Plus there are also andom surprise prizes as well.. yestrday somoen got the new werewolf, my morph set, and the clothing set, a $40 on intro sale value, or a $50 off sale value, depending on how you look at it."

Yes I've seen them and who is winning them.

"And as a huge Frazetta fan, having Frank Jr. actuall look over the entries and chose the winners is pretty dang cool."

Yes, that is cool for the top 20. Never said it wasn't. Then again, I never said anything your insinuating I did

Gareee ( ) posted Sat, 09 August 2008 at 4:00 PM

If ya already got everything prise wise, I'l lhave to work faster! LOL!

I chose the suprise prize with my morph set in it.. not someone I've even ever replied to, but someone I saw as making good effort also trying to learn along the way. Maybe not a winner, but someone who deserved something for their efforts.

And actually Frank Jr. has been looking over the entires from the beginning... he had no idea this kind of computer image ability was available to the masses.. unfortunately, Frank Sr. will probably not see them.. they don;t even own a personal computer in his house, and between his age, and his health, he's having a tough time of it of late.

I've spoken to Ellie, Frank Sr.'s wife, one of Frank Sr's daughters, and both Frank Jr. and his wife, and the entire family is very outgoing, and loves the attention the frazetta artwork has gotten for them.

When I saw Bluesdragon doing a Frazetta contest, I stuck my nose in, and gave Bluesdragon a shock, when I told him Frank jr. would be happy to be a guest judge, and he won't be calling any favorites, since he doesn't even klnow anyone.

And when Daz found out he was going to be the main judge, they decided to be even more generous then they originally planned, and kicked in some amazing prizes as well.

And more importantly to me, they also left BluesDragon in charge, since it was originally his baby.

Sorry if I mistook your post in error.

Tashar59 ( ) posted Sat, 09 August 2008 at 4:31 PM

That's is cool that Frank Jr. is looking at all of them. BD said it would be the top few picked by the judging group that would be looked at by him.

"Sorry if I mistook your post in error."

No big deal, it  happens all the time. I had someone wig out last night at Daz when I kinda gave Daz a compliment about wording the latest news letter and thought they extended the elite bundle sale because I thought it was a long weekend. .

I say something about the round about way to upload the contest images and I had some PA freaking at that.  But that also means some of them may be judges so I can't enter the contest. The way it's set up , the judges know whos images they are. so I'm F'.

Oh well shit happen.

Gareee ( ) posted Sat, 09 August 2008 at 4:41 PM

Nah.. BD and I am some of the judges, and I'd vote for something by Anton or Dodger, even though I don't get along with them well, if they posted something worthwhile.

That why the initial judging is by catagories.. color, design, ect.. because it's easier to sort a pecking order out, if you just vote a number in a catagory, and then total them up at the end.

I've seen some I REALLY like, that are out of the ordinary renders, but as a judge, I can't really talk about ones I like or dislike.

...and I couldn't even tell you who did them, because I don't really look at things like that at all.

That's one contest I'm so very willing to pass and not spent my time on. This is one thing that is completely stopping me: *PRELIMINARY JUDGING... A panel of forumites and DAZ PA's will pick the top entries using the point totals.

*It's already safe to say that the best entry will not win, most forumites and DAZ PA's have a certain taste that somehow makes the blind to see good stuff outside of that.

So an $1100 print is something to stick up your nose at?

Yes, unless you do like Frank Frazetta works. Personally I don't care for them, so I won't enter and give everyone else a chance to win it, the only thing I would do with a Frank Frazetta print is throw it away with the garbage. I've got no interest in showing my interpretation of the "Frank Frazetta Style", I really dislike his style and what it represents.

Besides, there aren't any t-Shirts to win, what's a contest without t-shirts?

You are truly an incredible piece of work. It's amazing that you insult a very well respected artist in the same breath that you say that you won't enter and give everyone else a chance to win?

LOL, thanks buddy, but I don't think anyone is breathing a sigh of relief because you're not entering.

Hey, I would go for a pen if it was the same as the one in the movie " Real Men." But I'm definitely not pay intergalactic shipping for it.

* It's amazing that .......

*And it is equally amazing (and perhaps even insulting) that you expect every poser users to love the same kind of art and to respect each artits around. I really dislike his art and I don't really can get so far to respect an artist making the kind of stuff he makes. Sorry to dissapoint you.

I don't expect everyone to love his art; I am actually a bit more of a Boris fan because I like more detail in fantasy images. I just don't think it's appropriate to say that I'd throw his art in the trash or that I don't like what his art represents.

Personally, I consider that free speech and more to be honest more people should really say what they really think about art, otherwise it all ends up like a lot of the comments given here..... awesome work, so wonderful hon, superb and so on while we all know the opposite is more closely to the truth.

Well, to each his/her own opinion, but I rather have people tell me what they really think about my images.

Julie is hot too!  When you think about it...   Boris vs Frazetta argument is 3 decades old now.  LOL!  I don't think I'd throw it in the trash either...

BTW Did Frazetta apprentice under Hogarth?

obm890 ( ) posted Mon, 11 August 2008 at 10:41 AM

@aeilkema

I'm not sure what you mean by "his style and what it represents", he has done some varied works over the years.

Quote - Well, to each his/her own opinion, but I rather have people tell me what they really think about my images.

Ok, try this: Looking at your gallery I think your images would improve in leaps and bounds if you took a close look at a few of Frank Frazetta's images and learned from them some very basic things about composition, contrast, lighting, chiaroscuro, colour, focal point, mood, and drama, to name but a few. You don't have to like his work to be able to learn from it, you just need a little less arrogance.

aeilkema ( ) posted Tue, 12 August 2008 at 7:57 AM · edited Tue, 12 August 2008 at 8:01 AM

I could do so..... if I want to expose myself to risk of loosing all creativity and if that was the style I would want to acquire, which obviously I don't want. There are way to many poserites learning from and in the end ending up copying someone else's style, way to many poserites have lost the creativity a long time ago by using styles that others have determined as good or the standard.

Besides you haven't expressed what you think, you have expressed what someone else thinks about how art whould be and we see image after image posted here with the same percerption, making the galleries very boring at times. I wish the majority of people would develop their own style and find their own creativity, instead of always 'learning' from others.

As stated before, it's one of the reasons I will enter competitions like these, they're creativity killers and we've lost more then enough of that over the years.
