Subject: Totally OT: Sweeney Todd

Casette ( ) posted Fri, 22 August 2008 at 1:12 AM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 4:00 AM

Hi folks

Some of you knowns that, besides a 3D drawer, I'm an actor at the other side of the digital mirror. This note is only to tell you that, after a very looong and hard casting, finally I'm cast member of the spanish version of SWEENEY TODD, THE DEMON BARBER OF FLEET STREET which will be released at Madrid next october 15th. Chorus line only, but taking in mind the chorus in this production are twelve people, I have a zillion of small phrases, short roles and stage jumps

By the moment we're learning all the music (hard music indeed, full of strange notes and dissonances), and next september, 1st will start the stage work

(my contract rules. It's a National Theatre Company so I'm drolling... a very high euros amount)
:tt1: 🤤

So... sorry if I'm offline more than usual. I promise to post photos as soon as possible :woot:

EDITED
August 20th was my birthday (43). They told me past sunday 17th that I got it and was contracted. It's the best (anticipated) birthday gift I never received 😉

Ohhh! Congrats Casette! Our house LOVVVVVVES Sweeny Todd...

My 18 year old son is always belting out the pie shop song in the shower...that and the one about a beautiful woman. Or he walks through my office singing a line and I finish it for him. Yeah...we're weird like that....We haven't got the soundtrack yet, but now when I hear it, I 'll think of you!

Good luck!

Congos! Sounds like a lot of fun.

Our local college is doing Sweeney Todd for their fall musical this year....so I have to dust of my ushering gear and work one more play so I can get in to see it for a nice low price.

The closest I ever got to being in a play was when I was in high school and I helped out with costumes and did the makeup for *Man of La Mancha

I did stage hand stuff for plays in high school...was in a pit orchestra for a production of Fiddler on the Roof. (not as much fun when the pit is under the stage.../shudders)

Then started ushering for the college plays here a while back and moved on up to being assistant house manager. Now the secretary/box office manger calls me in if they need an extra body, or if she doesn't have anyone 'knowledgeable' enough to work the box office in the evenings for shows. She gives me a free ticket for helping out.

Yes, we say this. But over all, ¡MUCHA MIERDA! (LOTS OF SHIT!). I know it sounds rather ugly, but it's usual between european actors. It comes from France; originally in Paris only people from high class could go to theatre, and they came in horse car or coaches. If there was great amounts of shit at the theatre entry, it was meaning the theatre was full so the play had a big success

:tongue1:

No problem. But I'll haven't photos in theatre costume until some days later. Yesterday I had my first meeting with the taylor team (they toke all my measures, including some unusual things, like distance ear-to-ear, I suppose for hats and wigs), besides they toke photos of my body and face (for make-up department). And today (in two hours from now) I have a new meeting where I will start to test my clothes. I have my cellphone photo camera, so as soon as I have a funny look I'll post it here

Heh. Although I'm a chorus line member I have already my little 'moment of glory': :tongue1: I will be shaved (not killed! :bored: ) by Sweeney in the duel with Adolfo Pirelly

*TODD: (As the music starts, surveying the crowd)
Friends, neighbors, who's for a free shave?

FIRST MAN (Your Friendly Neighborhood Casette)

Update: Finally confirmed in today's rehersal... I'm a victim of Sweeney :scared:

A customer arrives (POOR CASETTE AGAIN). Todd ushers him into the tonsorial parlor and seats him in the chair, preparing him for a shave*

*      TODD (Sings dreamly to himself throughout, bening and detached for the action)
      **Johanna ...
And are you beautiful and pale,
*** with yellow hair *like her?
I'd want you beautiful and pale,
the way I've dreamed you were,
      Johanna.
And if you're beautiful, what then,
      with yellow hair like wheat?
I think we shall not meet again,

      (He slashes the customer's throat)
     * My little dove, my sweet Johanna ...

And then Casette's corpse dissappears by a trapdoor. Mwhaha

I will wear a ink bag under my costume with a pipe full of holes about my neck in order that the 'blood' splashes in the righ moment. And I'll fall by a slide to a matress at the end. Funny as Disneyworld, I repeated the scene today over ten times, and I was wishing 'one more time, one more time!' :woot:

Update (damn, I should call this post SWEENEY BLOG) :woot:

We've finished our second phase. I explain: two weeks for music, and next two week for stage rehersals. Now we know where we are in each play's moment... and now the hard work starts. Tomorrow (monfay is free day in all spanish theatres) we'll start scene by scene to polish movements, give intention and reasons to each character... two new weeks until end of september. I suppose that slowly we'll add our costumes to next rehersals (although we men actually are wearing our boots, and women their long skirts, in order to measure our movements and steps in the middle of such floors, walls, columns, stairs...)

Heh. They toke my measures for a curious prop. It's a hard long metal piece in my chest (I say it's Iron Man chest) with a pressure air bag inside and an ink tube full of holes finishing around my neck. In the 'proper' moment I must press a valve... and my neck explodes in a red ink jet (obviously, the moment that poor costumer Casette loses his throat)

I add a new photo: Sweeney's chair in his barber shop (upper level of Mrs. Lovett's store)

**Finally we have official poster!**

Updated: Past week was a hard one. Testing make-up (in my first test I looked like The Joker), wardrobe and wireless microphones. Oh, and of course the bloody blood machine (each time it explodes I need a change of all my clothes, grunt). As anecdote, the first day that the blood coach and I tested the device in a theatre bathroom, he gave too much pressure so walls, ceiling and floor seemed like if Freddy Krueger was there playing with his knifes (mwhaha)

Present week is hard too... because since past thursday we're finally in rehersals with the orchestra. And of course it sounds completely different than the previous one with piano reduction. And sound people need to re-adjust all their parameters in the mixer. But a couple of days more, and we're ready to start getting velocity until october. 'On the road'
